Girls’ Sport

It has been a very chilly start to the New Year and for returning to school after the Christmas break, but fortunately the weather was as kind as it could be on Wednesday, and we had lots of matches against Dulwich, Cranbrook. The seniors played at home whilst the U10/11 girls travelled to Dulwich.

1st Team Netball

Dulwich arrived a little late, allowing time for a good warm-up and some internal match play before the game began. Although the team took a while to find their rhythm, the girls responded well, playing with improved positional awareness and moving the ball more confidently down the court.

Esperanza and Bella were outstanding in defence, making several key interceptions to regain possession. The ball was then transitioned smoothly through the court by Tilly, Isla and Iris, and then Trixie and Megan worked with great energy in the circle to score some great goals, despite the very cold conditions.

Leading 7–1 at half-time, the team extended their advantage to secure a convincing 19–6 victory. Trixie was named Girl of the Game, but it was an improved performance by the whole team.

Very well done to all of the girls on another great result ahead of our away fixture against Sevenoaks next Wednesday. SP

U13B Netball

Holmewood started the new year off with a really exciting game against Dulwich Cranbrook in cold conditions. Dulwich caught Holmewood cold in the first quarter, racing to a 5-1 lead, however in the next two quarters, Holmewood had pegged them back to being only two behind. The final quarter was one of the most impressive quarters I’ve witnessed as Holmewood showed incredible determination and good skill and won the quarter 6-0 meaning that despite being down the whole game, we ended up winning 12-8. A special mention goes out to Pippa, who played up a year and won girl of the game with some brilliant leadership in the final quarter, and Perdi who was playing her first netball game in 4 years. AF

U12A Netball

The girls showed grit and determination against a much taller team. They worked hard at getting in front of their defenders rather than using overhead passes. Girl of the game went to Lavinia who was well supported in the shooting circle by Ffion and Clemmie. Shekinah, Bo and Millie worked hard in the centre court with Antonia and Rebecca trying hard to keep moving round their attackers who were considerably taller! Well done girls. TB

Under 11A Netball

A great match, beating Dulwich Cranbrook 7 – 3! The girls all played very well with some good attacking play. They worked hard on passing the ball across the court instead of just down the line. Some good passes into the circle meant the shooters had time to score some great goals. Well done to Temi who was Girl of the Game. KL

Under 11B Netball

The girls put in a strong and determined performance but were narrowly beaten 10-7 against Dulwich Prep. The team showed great effort and teamwork throughout the match, improving their play as the game went on. Well done girls – lots to build on for the next match. KL

Under 11C Netball

The U11C team had a shortened match against an U13E team in the sportshall this week and put in a great performance against an older team. They worked hard and were positive throughout. The team showed great teamwork and although they lost should be proud of their attitude, application and effort during the match. Well done girls! Girl of the game went to Darcy. EB

Under 11D Netball

The U11D team had a tough match, with low numbers on our side, we made use of an U10 playing up to play on the wing. Hannah in GK worked hard turning balls over and using Emilia (POM) and Sofia to bring the ball down to our shooters. End score 4-3 win. KB

U10A Netball

The U10A team played Dulwich away on Wednesday. Dominating the first quarter 7-0, the girls had an opportunity to learn and play different positions, developing their links with each other down the court. Winter was awarded POM for her superb goal scoring and hard work in defence. End score 15-0 KB

U10B Netball

A strong performance from the Under 10B team, who played against DPS Cranbrook this week. The girls attacked from start to finish, showing excellent focus and commitment and some lovely sportsmanship at the end. The match ended at 19-0 to the Holmewood House girls, with goal-attack Alana named as girl of the game. Well done to all the players on a chilly afternoon. AP
