Years 3 + 4

Year 3 and Year 4: Building Independence

Year 3 and Year 4 are pivotal as children start to develop a stronger sense of independence while still receiving robust support from dedicated class teachers and specialist subject teachers in sport, music, art, and drama. Our staff are committed to guiding pupils through these formative years, ensuring they gain confidence and competence in various subjects.

A Nurturing Learning Environment

Our nurturing learning space provides a comfortable and inspiring setting that fosters learning and creativity. Features of the Year 3 and 4 learning environment include:

  • PAT Dog: Our friendly PAT (Pets As Therapy) dog offers comfort and companionship, creating a calming atmosphere
  • Cosy Reading Corners: Inviting reading areas encourage a love for books and a quiet space for reflection
  • Bright, Airy Classrooms: Spacious classrooms with lots of natural light promote a positive and engaging learning experience.

At Holmewood House, we believe that a supportive and stimulating environment is key to nurturing independent and enthusiastic learners. As your child embarks on this new phase, we are dedicated to providing the resources and guidance they need to thrive academically and personally.

Taking Ownership

In Years 3 and 4 at Holmewood House, children are given numerous opportunities to collaborate both within their class and across the year group. This helps them build essential social skills and a sense of community.

Growing Independence

This period marks the beginning of a broader learning environment where children start to spread their wings, becoming more confident and self-aware. They are encouraged to take ownership of their learning, organising their belongings, and navigating from one activity to another independently.

Exploring Passions through Co-Curricular Clubs

With the introduction of various co-curricular clubs, children can explore and define their passions, gaining a sense of pride and joy in their achievements. These clubs provide a platform for students to delve into new interests and discover hidden talents, fostering a well-rounded development.

Preparing for the Future

This gradual development process ensures that by the time they complete Year 4, they are well-prepared to reflect on their learning journey and look forward to the next stage of their educational adventure in Year 5. At Holmewood House, we are committed to supporting each child’s growth, helping them become confident, independent, and enthusiastic learners.
