Girls’ Sport 12.9.25

It has been a very wet start to the new term, but great to have all the girls back playing sport and performing well in their hockey.

The seniors had a block at Sevenoaks whilst a team of U10 girls travelled to play in a tournament at Ardingly. The U11 and 10 girls not in matches had a training session, but had lots of game play.

1st Team Hockey

The U13A girls got their season underway with a spirited performance, despite falling to a 7–2 defeat in their opening fixture.

From the first whistle, the team showed real determination and energy, matching their opponents in effort and commitment. At half-time the score stood at 3–1, with the girls still very much in the contest thanks to a goal from Trixie, but they had missed a number of good chances.

After the break, however, the opposition’s organisation and fluid passing proved difficult to contain. Pippa made some excellent saves in goal, but despite some resolute defending and another goal from Trixie, the pressure eventually told, and the girls conceded further goals.

The final scoreline of 7–2 was tough, but there were plenty of positives to take from the game. The team played with real spirit, created some promising link-up play, and gained valuable experience against a well-drilled side. With this first outing behind them, the girls will look forward to building on their performance as the season progresses. DB

2nd Team Hockey

The 2nd team delivered a commanding 4-0 victory over Sevenoaks, dominating play from start to finish. Slick passing and excellent teamwork created chances, with Shekinah scoring twice to set the tone. Millie added a fine goal, earning Girl of the Game for her tireless performance, before Zoe completed the scoring. The defence stayed composed under pressure, ensuring a clean sheet. A superb display of skill, energy and determination, leaving the team excited for the season ahead! DG

3rd Team Hockey

The 3rd team produced a fantastic 3-1 win against Sevenoaks, showing determination and teamwork throughout. A strong defensive effort kept the opposition under pressure, while quick attacking play created plenty of chances. Three well-taken goals highlighted the team’s quality and composure in front of goal. Sevenoaks pulled one back, but the girls remained solid to see out the result. An excellent performance all round and a promising sign of more success to come this season! MI

4th Team Hockey

The 4th Team got their season underway with a determined 0-0 draw against Sevenoaks. The girls showed great energy, tackling strongly and working hard to win back possession. They created some good chances and had shots at goal, but couldn’t quite get the ball over the line. A strong first match and a great effort all round! KL

U10 Hockey

U10A Hockey Tournament at Ardingly – Season Opener

The U10A hockey season got off to an exciting start on Wednesday with a tournament at Ardingly.

Our first match against St Christopher’s was a great confidence booster for the HH girls. We kept strong possession throughout, with our attacking players dominating the game. Margot scored our first goal after several determined attempts, keeping the pressure high. Soon after, we were awarded a shuffle, and Winter skilfully slipped it past their keeper into the corner of the goal. Cecilia then stormed down the right wing and added a third goal within 10 minutes — securing an impressive 3-0 win.

Next, we faced a tougher challenge against Hurst. Their attack tested our defence, and although we made a few promising runs, we couldn’t convert them into goals. Hurst were awarded a shuffle, but Amelie made a brilliant save, clearing the ball to the edge of the D. However, Hurst came back strong and managed to score, resulting in a narrow 1-0 loss.

Undeterred, and now playing in heavy rain, we went up against Cumnor House. Much like our first match, we controlled the game. Ottilie took a penalty and skilfully flicked the ball into the goal. Another penalty followed, and Cecilia netted her second of the tournament. Cumnor tried to respond, earning a penalty of their own, but Amelie made another fantastic save. The final whistle blew on a 2-0 victory.

Unfortunately, the tournament was called off early due to flooding on the Astro.

Despite finishing the day soaked through, the HH team showed great determination, skill, and teamwork — promising signs for the season ahead.

Player of the Match: Amelie B — for her outstanding goalkeeping in her first game between the posts! KB
