Leavers’ Concert

This Tuesday we said goodbye to our Y8 musicians who have been such a wonderful support for the music department over the past year. It was fantastic to hear their solos and see them in the choir, orchestra and brass group one more time so I just want to take this opportunity to thank them all personally.

Joseph for his exacting percussion playing in the orchestra and his contribution to choir, our two Phoebe’s for their long lasting contribution to music at Holmewood, in particular playing percussion in the orchestra and singing in the choir, Davincia for her tremendous trombone playing and her leadership of the alto section in choir, Maz for her blossoming bassoon playing and her commitment and dedication to choir, Hannah for her outstanding violin playing in both orchestra and chamber orchestra, Freddie for his commitment, contribution and leadership as Head Chorister, Elena as our fantastic Leader of the Orchestra and Xavi for his outstanding commitment and contribution to music across the board, in both orchestra and chamber orchestra, brass group and as our Head Chorister.

We also say goodbye to Ayla who performed a wonderful piano solo on Tuesday evening and to Juwan who has made a massive contribution to school music both in choir and orchestra.

Our Tuesday evening Leavers’ Concert really was a celebration of all that we have achieved musically over the past two years and so it is with joy and sadness that I conducted that particular group of children for the last time. The choir sang 3 contrasting piece “Adiemus”, “Every Time I feel the Spirit” and “Do not be afraid” which I think is a fitting message to leave with our young people as they go on to greater challenges and then a final burst of “Pomp and Circumstance” to give it that Last Night of the Proms vibe!
