Girls’ Sport 13.6.25

As summer returns, it was great to have all the girls out playing cricket again this week. With the senior hardball girls playing at home for the first time against Benenden, the rest travelled to Claremont and the Colts all played Somerhill. On Thursday the juniors played St Ronan’s both home and away and today we see the year 6,7 and 8 pupils go to Ashford for the IAPS Athletics Competition… Good luck to you all!!!

2nd Team Cricket

Holmewood House scored 239 runs for 7.

Claremont scored 261 runs for 3 wickets.

On arrival, we noticed the artificial wicket and this raised a few eyebrows. However we bowled first and found good line and length with just a few wide balls. But unfortunately, 3 early dropped catches set the tone. Slight reprieve came from Darcie’s superb throw down, Sophia R’s wicket and Tilly’s great catch in the last over. Generally our fielding was accurate, with great backing up and direct throws to the wicket keeper. This quicker wicket was trickier and we only managed singles and occasional 2 runs. Our downfall today was the 7 wickets which was crushing. Only Harriet and Darcie were spared. No excuses today, we needed someone to take the lead and show the opposition our intent. We were slightly too casual and gave the game away. POM Bowler Sophia R Batter Tilly. SE

3rd Team Cricket

HH 110 runs, 1 wicket in 10 overs
Claremont 30 runs, 3 wickets in 10 overs.
Another fantastic win for the mighty 3rd team which continues are unbeaten season with only one match left. After a long journey to Claremont we were greeted by our hosts and made our way to the pitch – we were playing on grass with very dry ground and a small boundary – we therefore had to work on hitting high balls and stopping balls from going out for 4s. We lost the toss and batted first, a pair had to bat again due to numbers. Best batter was Saskia with 24 runs in 1 over, followed by Alicia with 16 runs in 1 over.
A strong first innings resulting in 110 runs for Holmewood. Best bowler was Blanca who conceded -1 runs in 1 over, followed by Saskia who conceded 1 run in an over. Claremont selected Saskia as the best bowler and Hannah as the best batter. TD

4th Team Cricket

The 4th team were playing against 11 players at Claremont and so some of the team got to bat or bowl twice which was fun. Losing the toss, Kitty as captain put the team into bat and the team grew stronger as the innings went on. Delilah, Kitty and Ava-Lily scored a number of 4’s and we finished the innings on 102 having given no wickets away. Going into bowl Megan took 2 quick wickets in the second over, and then repeated her performance taking another 2 wickets in the fifth over, so took 4 wickets in total!! Esperanza and Lottie also took wickets, which meant Clarmont lost a lot of runs. With the opposition finishing with a total of 51, Holmewood had a convincing win. Very well done to Megan, Esperanza, Raadiyah, Ava-Lily, Lottie, Delilah and Kitty! SP

U11A Cricket

The Girls U11A team faced a tough challenge against a strong Somerhill boys U10A side this week. Despite some early nerves, the girls rose to the occasion and delivered their best ever cricket performance! There were some brilliant moments throughout the match, with some confident batting, committed fielding and some superb bowling. Millie stood out playing some excellent shots and earning the title of Best Batter. With the ball, Zoe bowled with great accuracy and composure, making her our Best Bowler of the match. Although the girls didn’t come away with a win this time, I was so proud of their performance – well done! KL

U11B Cricket

The girls played really well against a tough team. We had some great bowling and batting. Sadly we didn’t win this one. The girls played their best till the end. Bowler of the game was Maya and batter of the game was Deya. Well done, Girls. EB

U10A Cricket

For their 5th game of the season, the team – captained by Alice – faced a strong Somerhill side. HH won the toss and opted to send Somerhill in to bat first. Somerhill set the standard high, punishing any wide balls and managing to score 93 runs from 8/10 overs. Needing to limit runs off of the last pair, up stepped Alice and Mayra – between them grabbing three wickets – pushing the Somerhill score back to 88 runs. HH would need their highest score of the season to win the game! Once again Somerhill showed their skill – getting three wickets in the first two overs – leaving HH with a score of two after the first pair had batted. Knowing a great knock was needed, HH showed some great fight with Temi hitting four 4s to steer them back into the game. Going into the last over HH needed 15 runs to win. A tense final over included wides, boundaries, balls to be re-bowled and an amazing catch! With that wicket Somerhill were able to restrict HH to only 9 more runs meaning it their unbeaten streak was final over. Great skill and determination from both sides made for a truly wonderful game of cricket. BW

U10B Cricket

What an exciting match for the U10Bs on a beautiful afternoon at Somerhill! There was a great sense of team spirit amongst the girls and their enjoyment of the game shone through. It was fantastic to see all the skills they have been practising in training pay off. Impressive fielding and communication throughout, with some lovely accurate bowling. A very close match with Holmewood winning 50-48. Special mention to Ella who was named batter of the match and Sofia who was bowler of the match! Well done team! LM

U10C Cricket

The U10C team faced Somerhill in what turned out to be a fantastic match, made even more enjoyable by the glorious sunshine that lit up the pitch. We lost the toss and batted first, getting off to a strong start with some sharp running between the wickets. Excellent communication and confident calling from Hannah, Flo H, and Anna kept the scoreboard ticking over with quick singles and clever shot placement. Their efforts helped us reach an impressive total of 80 runs. With momentum on our side, we went into the field with determination. Our bowling and fielding were sharp and focused, with Olivia, Anna, Hannah, and Flo H each taking a wicket to put Somerhill under constant pressure. Their combined efforts restricted Somerhill to a total of just 48 runs. It was a brilliant team performance and a well-deserved victory in our penultimate match of the season, showcasing great spirit and teamwork. KB

U9A Cricket

Our girls faced a strong and well-drilled Saint Ronan’s side and, despite being outplayed 232 to 280, showed good spirit throughout. There were some excellent moments of batting and bowling and some hard work in the field! Special mention goes to Winter, who was named Girl of the Game for her outstanding all-round performance. Well done, girls! KL

U8 Cricket

The A and B teams played at St Ronan’s and both teams showed how much their bowling has improved. In fact we bowled so well that St Ronan’s could hit the ball well and score runs, whilst we really struggled to hit any of the balls from our opposition and had so many extras. We do need to move our feet and try to hit more of the wides and no balls, but we will work on that this next week.

All in all a great afternoon with great progress and smiles all round! SP
