Year 7

DT & Engineering – Battery Powered Cars

In Year 7, pupils are making a battery powered car. The car moves as soon as an item is placed on top. Pupils make their own pressure switch which enables the battery to power an electric motor. The car transmission uses a rubber band and a pair of crowned pulleys. Pupils designed their own body shape, tested its fit to the chassis and cut out the final version from 3mm acrylic with a XTool P2 laser cutter. James Murray / Paul Unwin

Using compasses and coloured pencils the Year 7s are creating beautiful patterns. Tom Johnson / Keith Siddle
