Year 5

WoLLoW

In WoLLoW this week, Year 5 have been looking at how word order and sentence structure can differ in languages and how we can use it for special effect. We had a go at imitating Yoda from Star Wars. This was given as a task in the UK Language Olympiads. Can you do it?  Madame Simpson

5TM enjoyed a wonderful Form Time testing their descriptive and listening skills, ably led by Will G, the form captain. Will explained the pairs had to work together to create matching pictures. One was to describe a picture using only shapes and locations and the other was to draw exactly what was described. There were some great similarities and some amusing differences. Alison Tripp

Pi Day

On international Maths day, known as Pi day (14/3 when the date is written in its American format) children in Years 5 and 6 tested their accuracy skills this week by measuring the circumferences and diameter of different circles. Dividing the circumference by the diameter led to an interesting discovery for them – they were all very similar, no matter how large or small the circle was it always seemed to be around 3, and so Pi was discovered!
