The Learning Hub 7.3.25

World Book Day

A lot of fun was had across the school celebrating books and book characters on World Book Day. There were many exciting activities to choose from out of the Learning Hub.

How Well Do You Know Your Library Quiz? was a test of pupil’s knowledge of the library layout and catalogue.

Roll-a-Book Game was a dice game that generated five words which were used to develop a book cover design.

For the Book Character Trail pupils had to find six words located around the school, guess then draw the character making sure they incorporate the six character traits.

Ten words were hidden around the school grounds that had to be unscrambled to make well-known book titles.

There was a Book Swap where over 42 pre-loved books were swapped. Thank you for all the donations.

The best homemade costume was judged by Senior Librarians.

Finally pupils could make paper craft book tail bookmarks.

The Book Fair run by Rosie Hill Books was very successful and has generated around £420 commission that will be spent on lovely new books for the school library.

Well done to librarians Maddie, Ava-Lily, Raadiyah, Bea, Alice, Sofia and Anna for helping create and run the day.

Our wonderful Keith Siddle, resident children’s book author and illustrator, gave a talk to Year3&4 about his creative process.  We were lucky to have a preview of his new book ‘Debra the red striped Zebra’ which will be published in the summer. The children loved seeing his sketches, paintings and ship model and were impressed by all the hard work that goes into making these wonderful stories. Can you spot any similarities between the Year 3 teacher’s outfits and his illustration?!
