Girls’ Sport 7.3.25

We had a great week of sport with amazing weather. The girls could get on the fields for their football sessions and matches and the house netball was held in glorious sunshine.

See House News for the house netball report.

U11As vs St Michaels

Win 1-0

The first game of the football season saw HH take on a strong, well-drilled St Michaels side. HH started strongly, dominating early possession with Clemmie, Nilaya and Lavinia stringing together some great long passes. The first half of the game saw neither team have a shot on target however HH looked the stronger of the two sides, consistency getting the ball into good areas – just missing a final shot. The team took on the half time feedback well, scoring soon into the second half – Shekinah drifting out wide to receive the ball, dribbling past a defender and firing across a great cross into the path of Clemmie who swept home the only goal of the game. St Michaels looked to respond but Millie and Iona were quick to stop any counterattacks with some strong tackling. A really promising first game of the season for HH!

What a great start to the football season. The girls didn’t give up and even though they didn’t win this one, I’m so proud of how they were as a team and working so well together. Some great passes, getting into space and great saves from Amaia. Well done Girls. Girl of the game went to Ottilie.  EB

The girls delivered a fantastic performance, securing a dominant 7-2 victory over St. Michael’s. They showed great teamwork and determination with some super goals – a hat-trick by Maya (also awarded Player of the Match) and Ffion and Charlotte scoring too. A superb effort from the whole team – well done, girls! KL

U10A Football

U10A’s went to Radnor House for a start of the season tournament. The sun was shining although the grass was still muddy.

First up was Cheam Park Farm. A physical game, with their players pushing into the Holmewood girls. It didn’t do them any favours as a goal went in. Cheam Park Farm, quickly retaliated with an equaliser. In the last few minutes, a hand ball resulted in Darcie being given the opportunity to score and the end result was 2-1.

Second match against St Michael’s. With both teams having more than 5 girls, we played 7 aside on the small pitches. Dominating the play the entire game but finding it difficult to find space, we won 1-0.

Third match against a well drilled Hilden Grange resulted in our only loss of the day.

Penultimate game was against Beechwood, who have a football academy and appeared well drilled. The Holmewood team fought hard from being down a goal in the first few minutes to drawing 1-1 by the end.

Last game of the day was against out hosts, Radnor. Both teams held space brilliantly on pitch with the ball going from end to end. With 30 seconds till the end, Radnor had a hand ball, to which Darcie made full use of and scored in the top corner to secure our 3rd win (1-0) of the day.

Well done to Alice (in goal), Amelie, Bea, Ellie, Isla, Temi and our captain of the day, Darcie who was awarded MVP! KB

U10B Football

The 10Bs travelled to St Michaels to play an 8 aside fixture. There were plenty of goals for both sides with score ending 5-2 to the home side. The girls understood their positions well and as the match progressed their passing and dribbling sped up and really improved. The girls should be proud of their first match of the season. JP

U10C Football

The U10C team started their football season with a bang, scoring a wonderful goal in the first minute of the game with a well taken strike into the bottom corner of the net. The children worked hard throughout the game and showed fantastic enthusiasm. It was a lovely atmosphere, and both teams played the game in the right spirit. The game ended 2-2 with Rebecca being awarded Girl of the Game by the opposition after scoring both goals. AF

U9As vs The Mead

Win 3-0

Following last week’s win, the team once again put in a brilliant performance and secured their second win of the season. HH dominated possession for a large amount of the game and with some great tackling, never really looked like conceding. The first HH goal occurred in the first quarter with Cecilia tapping home after some nice team passing and wide play. In the third quarter Winter and Amelie both scored with two fantastic solo efforts – each dribbling past at least three Mead players before smashing the ball into the net. The team showed great team spirit and communication across the whole duration of the match. Great result.BW

Girl of the Game: Amelie

Under 9B Football

Our girls put in a strong performance against The Mead. Despite our defensive efforts and some excellent saves from our goalkeepers (Rosie and Maddie), The Mead won 2 goals to 1. A spirited effort from the team, with plenty of positives to take forward into the next match. Well done to Amelia-Rose for Player of the Match. KL

Under 9C Football

The U9C team worked incredibly hard with good dribbling skills and forward passes and there were several near misses at goal. Anni (POM) and Emma covered every blade of grass. Adetomiwa and Bonny worked hard in midfield. Sophie and Whitney made some critical tackles. Well done to the whole team. SE

Under 8 Football

It was great to be on the pitches at long last, and the girls in both teams seemed to thoroughly enjoy the experience. They work hard, chasing the ball and there has already been great progress in the play.

The A team gave away 2 early goals, but with a shift in positions there were mores scoring opportunities and they finished with a 4-2 win. The B team was the opposite. They scored a great goal early in the game and then in the last few minutes gave away a couple of soft goals and the match finished 1-3. SP
