Girls’ Sport 28.2.25

Returning from half term we were hopeful for some fine Spring weather on Wednesday, and although it felt a little warmer and lighter the rain, which has been incessant since September, affected the girls first football matches and they had to unfortunately be cancelled.

We did however venture to Ardingly to play our last senior netball matches of the year. Despite pouring with rain on our journey, the sun came out and we managed to play full matches. The Holmewood teams were much stronger than our opposition, but it was great to play.

1st team Netball

The girls started in their strongest positions for the first quarter which Holmewood dominated leaving Ardingly 13-2 down. There was lots of changing of positions for the rest of the match, but the team continued to play some great netball finishing with a score of 42-3 and Rosie being nominated as MVP. SP

U13B Netball

The U13B team had a convincing win against Ardingly College team. Our defence with Davincia, Maisie and Saskia barely allowed the ball to enter the oppositions shooting circle throughout the game. Finding space down the court, Elena and Iris worked hard maintaining possession and finding opportunities to pass to our shooters, Trixie and Megan (both playing up) to result in a fantastic 15-2 win. Well done all girls. KB

U13C Netball

The U13C match was much closer with the ball moving from end to end. The team linked some nice play down the court and the team managed a tight win of 13-10, with Raadiyah being nominated as MVP.

U12Netball

The sun came out for our match against Ardingly, with a convincing win of 27 goals to 3. Some excellent teamwork and sharp shooting throughout the game kept the momentum in our favour, leading to some fantastic goals. A great all-round effort from the team! KL

Thursday saw the start of the girls football season and despite wet pitches after all of the rain, the matches went ahead with the U8’s playing at home on the astroturf and the U9’s travelling to St Michael’s.

The U8B and C teams both drew and play was very tight in their games with the ball being played from end to end. There was a bit too much crowding around the ball, but this is something we will work on in the coming weeks, trying to link passes in the different positions and being more assertive to score the goals. It was a great effort from both teams with Rosie and Amelia being nominated as girl of the game for their respective teams. Well done girls!

The U8A Football

Lost 4-1

Goal scorer: Isla

Girl of the Game: Isla

A rocky start for HH saw St Michaels awarded an early penalty, a diving effort from Isla in goal was not enough to stop the powerful effort. 1-0 St Michaels. St Michaels continued to pile on the pressure during the first quarter however some brave defending saw Connie and Skylar block and clear away a handful of chances. HH started to grow into the game during the next quarter with Daisy and Maggie putting in some good tackles and bringing the ball further up the pitch. HH looked threatening and created some good chances with some nice dribbling however St Michaels saw a chance to counter-attack with pace and managed to find the back of the net twice in quick succession. HH didn’t let their heads go down and Isla managed to pull a goal back with a brilliant finish into the roof of the net. 3-1. A very balanced last quarter consisted of some lovely passing from both teams before St Michaels scored a late fourth. A great effort from the girls today as they all played the full game and showed a good positive attitude during and after the match. BW

U9A Football

The team battled to a 3-1 win against a tough St Michael’s team.

Amelie opened the scoring with a super goal, followed by equally impressive goals by Romy and Ottilie. A great first match to open our Football season. Well done to all the girls!

U9B Football

The first match of the season is always an exciting one! The girls travelled to St Michaels where they played a 7 aside game. The girls were brilliant throughout and managed to score 5 without conceding. Their passing and dribbling showed excellent control and skill. A great start to the year. JP
