Pre-Nursery & Nursery 14.2.25

Au revoir!

Before we break for half term, let us fill you in our final busy week! We were inspired by the artist “Kandinsky”, a Russian painter and art theorist who created abstract pictures. Focusing on his famous love heart paintings, the children had a go at making their own collages using a range of mixed media resources such as, paint, card, and tissue paper. We also talked about the special people in our lives, our favourite memories, and then designed our own Valentine’s cards to take home. We also celebrated French day by designing flags, wearing blue, white and red, and trying French cuisine such as boeuf bourguignon, mushroom cassoulet and crepes.

Rumble in the jungle!

After half term we will be learning all about the jungle, exploring animals of the Amazon rainforest, setting up a base camp, discovering tropical fruit, and heading out on a Safari around the grounds. We cannot wait for the wild adventures to begin!

Wilderness slime…

Pre-Nursery particularly love to get their hands messy during hands on learning experiences such as, gloop, playdough, and freestyle painting. Below is a recipe if you would like to make some wilderness, snaky slime during the holidays.

Method:
1. Mix the cornflour and water together. (This is the basic ratio to mix. If you want more, then add more of each so you build up the consistency you need.)
2. While adding the water, add a couple of drops of food colouring and mix well. For a more intense colour, add more food colouring.

Ingredients:
• 3 cups of cornflour
• 1 1/2 cups of water
• Food colouring (non-stain)
• A large activity tray or water trough
• Different spoons, forks, scoops, sieves (anything that the gloop can go through)
*Please note that, although this recipe is safe for children to taste and explore with their mouths, we do not recommend this.

Phonics and maths are everywhere…

This term the Nursery children started their phonics journey and have enjoyed looking at body percussion, environmental and instrumental sounds, and rhythm and rhyme within phase 1. We introduced the Name, sound and appearance of the letter sounds “s,a,t,i,p,n”. Alongside this, we have also been looking at maths in our surroundings for example, identifying numbers on clock faces, signposts, calculators and telephones. We have also been working out what happens to a group of objects when one is added or taken away. A fun way to teach your child phonics and maths at home is to take them to the supermarket and ask them to help you by finding the “a,a,apples” or counting out “5 potatoes”. Spring walks are also great for developing listening skills as they use their senses to tune in to different noises.

Have a super half term, we look forward to seeing you from Monday 24th February.

Best regards,
The Nursery Team
