U13B Netball
The U13B team travelled to Marlborough House. The opposition started quickly racing to a 6-1 lead in the first quarter, before Holmewood pegged them back to finish the quarter 6-4 down with some pin-point shooting from Astrid. Marlborough had a shooter that was a height we have not played against making it particularly challenging, so after a chat about how we could combat this, Holmewood started the second quarter with new tactics and renewed belief. Davincia put in a fantastic display as goalkeeper against her limiting her to very few chances and really putting her under pressure. Maisie backed her up nicely in goal defence and because of this solid defence Holmewood won the 2nd quarter and were 1 down at half time. Marlborough had a strong third quarter and took a 5-point lead going into the final quarter. With a big deficit to overcome Holmewood had a fantastic quarter, with Elena, Hen and Saskia overrunning the midcourt with fantastic work rate. Charlotte came into her own as a shooter and had a great quarter doing everything possible to overturn the lead Marlborough had. Holmewood won the final quarter but unfortunately not by enough points, and the game ended 16-14 to Marlborough House. The girls played great and on another day the result could easily have been different. AF
U13C Netball
Score 18-19 to Holmewood. Girl of the game: kitty
This week our U13 C team played hazelwood school at their home ground. It was a good match to watch as all girls had great determination and skills, resulting in a high scoring game. During the first quarter it was clear that the teams were evenly matched, but Holmewood was able to gain the lead by halftime. At the end of the third quarter hazelwood were able to take the lead but our girls stepped up their game. With accurate marking, passing and dodging, Holmewood were able to take the win 19-18. MI
U12A Netball
The girls travelled to Hazelwood to play them for the second time this season. It was a different selection of girls as their opposition and it started off fairly scrappy with the ball being turned over by both teams. In the second quarter HH settled and some lovely shooting from Trixie gave them a comfortable lead. We made some positional changes to help the girls to have a better understanding of the game and this gave us something extra to think about. A great win for the girls but we can certainly improve on our strength of passing and clearing and driving before our next match. TB
U12B Netball
Our team put on a strong performance, securing an 8-4 win against a Marlborough House mixed Under 13A&B team.
We started well, leading 3-1 after the first quarter. The opposition fought back in the second, levelling the score at 3-3. Refocusing in the third, we dominated play, pulling ahead 6-3. In the final quarter, solid defense and sharp shooting sealed the 8-4 victory.
A fantastic team effort—well done to all!
Under 11 Netball
The U11A team took part in the St Michaels netball tournament. They played 3 games losing 6 3 to Hazelwood, won 6 5 to K C Pembury and lost 5 1 to St Michaels. Throughout the afternoon the girls played with real determination and there were moments of excellence. However, there were also parts of our game which we could have done better. Some superb attacking moves from our centre pass right to goal with some fabulous shooting. The aim now is to keep the mistakes to a bare minimum. But we can learn from them and also understand how important it is to maintain the accuracy in our footwork and ball handling, shooting under the post and the discipline required with obstruction and contact. Nevertheless as always the girls bounce back especially after a few knocks and bumps and are raring to go again. A lovely group of girls who always give their all. Well Done to Captain Millie, Ottilie, Pippa , Iona, Lavinia, Clemmie and Shekinah. SE
Under 10 Netball
The U10’s played Marlborough House Colts teams on Wednesday at home.
A’s took a bit of time to settle with MH putting up a couple of goals quickly. By half time we were down by 1 goal. Going into the second half, our clean play landed the ball in Holmewood possession for the majority of the rest of the game. Temi and Fi in defence giving their shooters no space, allowed the turnover or interception. Darcie, Amelie, Isla and Ella created space down the court and fed the ball in to Alice and Bea who were shooting. Scoring another 5 goals without MH getting a chance to score another goal. End score 9-5 win.
B’s started strong, with Ellie and Emilia scoring 4 goals in the first quarter. The second and third quarter was much closer, Rebecca, Marsaili and Sofia made some great interceptions in defence and bringing the ball down to Flora, Tavonga and Mayra in the centre court. Going into the final quarter the score was still 4-1 to us, but MH came out fighting. The managed to put up 4 goals in the last few minutes, but we held the off. Resulting in a 6-5 win. Great close game.
C’s struggled with the size of some of the oppositions year 6 players but as the game went on, made a real big effort to find space and pass the ball down to our attacking end. Fleur, Florence H, Florence W worked really hard at marking their players, with Anna and Anne constantly trying to find space in the centre court with Hannah and Annabelle moving around the D to make shots at goal. Unfortunately wasn’t meant to be today, but huge improvement throughout the game. Anne was awarded POM by the opposition. 0-4 loss. KB
U9 Netball
Our Under 9 A team put in a spirited performance against a strong Somerhill side but ultimately fell to a 5-2 defeat. The girls, however, showed great resilience and sportsmanship throughout and there were plenty of positives to take forward into the next match. Great effort, girls!
U9B netball v Somerhill
The team played some energetic netball today moving and passing the ball down the court. Everyone tried their hand at shooting but alas we didn’t manage to score today. Nevertheless some great defending from Libby and Cara (POM). Also well done to Anni, Scarlett, Romy and Emilia-Rose.
Under 9C Team v. Somerhill
Despite missing several players due to illness and injury, our Under 9 C team put on a great display, securing an impressive 13-3 victory against Somerhill. Our shooting duo worked brilliantly to score some great goals. Well done to everyone!
U8 Netball
The U8A team girls travelled to Hazelwood to play in their first ever tournament. It was a BEE tournament which meant 5 a side and all girls had to switch positions in each match. The girls passed and moved down the court beautifully, but we did struggle to get the ball close enough to shoot in the earlier stages. This improved in the later matches with us winning our final match 3-0. A fun afternoon with lots learnt to carry forward next year into year 4.
TheU8B team played at Somerhill and with a larger squad and 7 a side, it proved quite tough for the team who struggled to score. Again, lots of fun and the end of the netball season, so very well done girls.
