David Walliams Visits Holmewood

The highlight of National Storytelling Week for our prep-aged children was the incredible surprise visit from author David Walliams! He captivated the audience as he spoke about his inspirations and how embracing our differences van be a wonderful thing.

The children were thrilled to hear excerpts from his books – including his latest release Super Sleuth – and had the chance to ask him questions. They also had great fun sharing their Worst Teacher anecdotes with him!

A huge thank you to David for visiting Holmewood and delivering such a brilliant, funny, and inspiring presentation – one the children will remember for a long time to come. He also kindly left us with an inspirational message which will be displayed in the library. Catherine Duncumb

Story Cafe

To kick-off National Story telling Week celebrations Mrs Jervois was our first mystery reader in the Learning Hub for Story Café, reading Rald Dahl. Pupils were treated to lots of her favourite Roald Dahl stories whilst curled up with a delicious freshly baked biscuit and a drink in the Learning Hub during morning break. About 70-80 pupils came along each day. Mrs Seecheran read extracts from Harry the Poisonous Centipede by Lynne Reid Banks, A boy and a bear and a boat by Dave Shelton and and Voyage of the Sparrowhawk by Natasha Farrant. On Wednesday Miss Bond read from The Day the Crayons Came Home by Oliver Jeffers and on Thursday Mr Parker read from The World’s Worst Children by David Walliams. Thank you to all our wonderful readers! Catherine Duncumb

Story Charades

On Monday lunch-time pupils had a lot of fun acting out story charades. Titles ranged from Paddington Bear to The Cat in the Hat and the Lord of the Rings. It was so well received that JBs spent  their session acting out stories for a whole hour too! Catherine Duncumb

Story Making

The last event for National Storytelling Week on Friday lunchtime was the chance to watch and make. Pupils could relax and watch short animations and readings of a selection of stories while making up their own stories inspired by illustration’s from children’s books and book texts.
