Penguins attention!
Pre- Nursery have been busy creating penguins out of cardboard tubes, learning how to take part in a step-by step activity as they painted the body and then used glue to stick on the beak and feet. They enjoyed singing along to one of their favourite rhymes “Have you ever seen a penguin come to tea?” and feasting on a role-play tea party.
Nursery set off on a polar expedition as they explored the Antarctic tuff tray, mixing flour and water to make a snowy gloop , engaging with the polar bears and penguins and creating different Winter scenes. They also put their maths heads on to work out which animals were the smallest and biggest, lining them up in size order and counting how many were in the group.
To round off our topic of Polar regions, we tapped into London Zoo’s animal webcam to have a sneak peek at the Emperor penguins, luckily for us it was feeding time and they were showing off their diving and flipping skills!
Chinese New Year…
Throughout the year we learn about different events and celebrations such as Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Ramadan and Easter, and next week we will be focusing on the Lunar Chinese New Year. To mark the occasion, we will be looking at the children’s zodiacs, reading the story of Rama and Sita, creating Chinese lanterns, joining in with dragon dancing and trying Chinese cuisine.
Music…
During our music lessons, Mr Parker has been teaching the children how to move their bodies in response to different volumes and tempos of music through songs, rhymes and musical instruments. He introduced them to Boom Whackers, where they were able to experiment with the different pitches by rocking the instrument up and down and side to side. A firm favourite continues to be a song called “Oh so quiet” which starts by saying shh shh and tip-toeing around the room, before transforming into stamping feet and loud outbursts of singing.
Forest school…
Visiting Mr. Lee is the highlight of the children’s week, we have never seen them so quick and keen to put on their wellies and wetsuits to venture out to find him in the woods. Over the past few weeks, they have been learning how to safely use small tools with an adult, make clay models and carefully climb in and out of low hammocks. It has been impressive to see how swiftly they have adapted to their forest environment and we look forward to many more adventures to come.
Although this term is busy with the hustle and bustle of Nursery life, we are fortunate there are no “big events” to prepare for, which enables us to spend undisturbed quality time with your amazing children. We will let you know of any upcoming key dates when they arise.
We hope you have a fantastic weekend and stay safe in the storm.
Best regards,
The Nursery Team.
