Girls’ Sport 24.1.25

Fortunately Wednesday’s weather didn’t stop play and all of the matches and tournaments went ahead. The mist and cold was a challenge, but the girls rose to it and competed with real Holmewood spirit at all age groups and levels.

1st Team Netball

The 1st team travelled to St Michael’s to play in their annual tournament and it was evident that Holmewood were simply a class apart. Winning matches against Wally Hall (8-3), Cumnor House (14-1), Hazelwood (12-3) and Sevenoaks Prep (16-0), the girls finished as winners. Some great team play from all of the team and Phoebe Lambert who starred a new player into the squad this week. Well Done girls! SP

U13B Netball

Holmewood House U13B played Vine Hall A at home. With a slightly depleted team Holmewood were up against a tough challenge. It was a tale of 4 quarters with Vine Hall getting off to a strong start and winning the first quarter 4-1. Holmewood won the second quarter 3-2 before collapsing in the 3rd to a 5-0 loss. They came out determined to win the 4th and did so 4-2. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough and Vine Hall won 13-8, due to a 10 minute lapse in concentration in the 3rd quarter. I’m sure Holmewood will bounce back in the next game. AF

U13C Netball

On Wednesday the U13C girls played Vinehall. During the first quarter Holmewood house started with an early lead, but Vinehall soon caught up in the second quarter leaving them tied at half time. However, Holmewood House soon regained their lead in the last two quarters thanks to their great positioning, passing and shooting. The game finished The game finished 8-18 to Holmewood and Poppy was girl of the game. MI

U12A Netball

The Year 7 Girls A Team had an action-packed netball tournament at St Michael’s showing determination and teamwork throughout their matches. The day started on a high note securing an impressive 6-1 victory against Rose Hill, with some great goals and excellent play all around – a brilliant way to kick off the tournament. In the second match against St Michael’s the girls showed great energy and focus earning a solid 5-0 victory. The momentum continued into the third match where the team faced Sevenoaks Prep. They maintained their strong form, achieving a commanding 10-0 score. The fourth match proved more challenging against a tough Hawthorns side. Despite their best efforts, the team were defeated, 4-1. The final match against Wally Hall was closely contested, but unfortunately the team narrowly lost 2-1.

Overall, the team displayed great sportsmanship throughout the day and finished in 3rd place. With 3 wins under their belt, they have much to be proud of and valuable lessons to take forward into future tournaments. KL

U12B Netball

The girls made a strong start to the match and had a 4-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. Vinehall came back in the second quarter which was 3-3. The third quarter was another closer affair but HH stayed strong and it was 4-2 so a score line of 11-5 going into the last quarter. Raadiyah and Alicia combined well and didn’t allow the vinehall girls to score any goals in the final quarter while Charlotte C and Sofia H kept the movement in the shooting circle. Sofia H was a very well deserved girl of the game whilst Charlotte C (and Sofia) would have been my coaches girls of the game.TB

U11A Netball

There were 10 schools competing, who were split into 2 groups using the 4 indoor courts at Sevenoaks School. We got off to a flying start beating Derwent Lodge 9 1. A tighter second game with Russell House who just pipped us in the last seconds of the game 9 10. A really good performance against Sevenoaks Prep winning 7 6 and a real battle against Blackheath prep losing 4 / 7. We finished 3rd at this stage. After a quick break, and a team talk we then faced St Michaels. A fantastic start taking an early lead with fluent play, excellent moving and great shooting. The second half, alas we gave away possession at centre pass, missed shots and some careless errors. We lost 5 7. However overall this team is showing huge improvement in all areas of the game and there were plenty of wonderful passages of play – as commented by the tournament’s umpire. Well done to Shekinah who received a match ball from the Sevenoaks A team captain for being selected as Player of the Tournament. But also huge congratulations to the whole team. Well Done girls. SE

U11B Netball

The U11B team played at Vinehall and had a great match. They were quick with their passing and finding space. Well done girls. It was a draw of 5-5 and girl of the game went to Clemmie. Well done girls EB

U10A Netball (Monday)

U10A’s went to Ardingly on Monday for a netball tournament.

Our first game against St Christophers took the team a few minutes to settle. By half time a couple of goals had gone in and our confidence was rising.

On a high after the first match, we played Brighton College Prep. After a slow start, a couple of great defence interceptions turned into goals and another win was in the bag.

Ardingly was our third match who had some strong defence, making it hard to get into our shooting circle. On the 2 opportunities we did, Bea and Alice managed to get goals in.

Great Walstead proved a harder match. Although equal in ability, we panicked after GW scored and made some rushed passes allowing them to pull ahead.

A strong Cumnor House (eventual winners) had a strong win and we hadn’t got our confidence back. The team finally had their match off in the tournament, giving the girls time to re-group, eat and drink with one more match to go. A quick goal against Brambletye raised spirits and play improved again.

Overall, we came a respectable 3rd having beaten Brighton Prep who came 2nd.

St Christophers 3-1

Brighton Prep 4-2

Ardingly 2-0

Great Walstead 1-3

Cumnor House 2-5

Brambletye 1-0 KB

U10A Netball (Wednesday)

U10A’s travelled to Vinehall for a Bee Netball game against their colts team. Starting strong, all the Holmewood House girls were scoring goals and working hard, clearing space and playing front ball down the court to win 19-1. Temi was awarded player of the match. KB

U10B Netball

A fast paced and exciting match from the U10Bs against St Ronan’s. There was a really strong sense of team spirit from the girls in this match, and was great to see them putting techniques learnt from training into play! Some great defence from Mayra and Marsaili and strong goals from Ellie and Flora.

Although the team lost 7-3, a fun afternoon was had! Well done to Ellie for getting girl of the match! LM

U10C Netball

The U10 Cs fought hard against a quick and powerful St Ronan’s side. They fought back well after going behind 0-4 in the first quarter, and worked hard to find space. Sofia and Rebecca were strong in defence and the final score was 0-8 to St Ronan’s. Rebecca was girl of the game. AP

Unfortunately the U8 and U9 Netball matches v Ardingly had to be cancelled. The weather came in just at the wrong time and so we had a fun training session in the warm and dry of the sports hall We do however, look forward to the House matches next Thursday.
