Girls’ Sport 17.1.25

This week the seniors travelled to Sevenoaks School to play a full block of netball fixtures, whilst the U11 girls played against Radnor House. The U9’s had their first netball tournaments at St Michael’s and some U9’s and the U8’s played St Michael’s here at home.

1st team Netball

We knew that this would be a tough match and were relishing the thought of being challenged and having to up our game following the recent wins against other opposition. We were 17-15 up at half time, and turnovers were becoming increasingly important as was scoring from our own centre passes. The second half saw us make strides, and Sevenoaks struggled to maintain the small gap. Scoring 11 goals to their 4 in the last quarter, it meant that we had a good win in the end, with the score finishing 36-24. Player of the match was Phoebe Leadb who played as an excellent GS and GA, but there was great team work from the whole team with Harriet, Saoirse and Maz putting the attack under great pressure with their marking, tips and interceptions, Rosie and Francesca in centre court, working tirelessly to transition the ball through the court, and Mae as the other attacker with her accurate shooting and hard work in attack. Phoebe Lbt made a brief appearance and rose to the challenge of the game too! Well done girls and we look forward to playing in the tournament at Sevenoaks next week. SP

U13B Netball

This week, U13B team travelled away to Sevenoaks. Knowing this would be our strongest opponents of the season, the girls arrived focussed and ready to compete to the best of their ability. The game was very competitive and ended up being an exhibition of defensive brilliance from both teams, with Davincia and Maisie having particularly strong displays limiting their attackers to very few good chances. This led to the match being a low scoring affair. The match swayed back and forth between who was leading each quarter and ended up being 7-6 to Sevenoaks. On the balance of play, it felt like Holmewood were unfortunate, however, I’m sure losing such a tightly contested event will help the girls for the future. The girl of the game was Astrid for a second week running. AF

U13C Netball

The U13C team had a tightly contested game at Sevenoaks and were only 2 goals down at half time. It is evident that the team are starting to gel as a unit and the play is really improving. Unfortunately Sevenoaks broke away in the second half and the match finished 11-7. Player of the match was Elena, but great work by all of the girls!! Well done. SP

U12A Netball

Our U12A team put in a great performance against Sevenoaks, despite a hard fought loss of 8 goals to 17. The opposing team were very strong but our defence worked well, with some brilliant interceptions, particularly Isla as Goal Defence and Bella as Centre. Our girls did not give up and I was proud of all the effort and spirit shown by all the girls. Girl of the Game for best Attacker was Trixie and best Defender was Isla. KL

U12B Netball

The U12B team played with great determination in their match against Sevenoaks, putting in a fantastic effort despite a tough result of 1-12. The B team never gave up and encouraged each other which was great to see. Our defence made some key interceptions and worked hard to slow down the opposition’s attack. Well done, B Team – keep building on this great foundation! Esperanza was awarded Girl of the Game. KL

U9A Netball

The Under 9A netball team delivered a fantastic display of teamwork and resilience at the tournament at St Michael’s on Thursday, reaching the Semi Final after an exciting run of matches.

The opening match against Sutton Valence secured a 6-0 victory, with a confident and energetic start to the afternoon with some great attacking play from Margot, Cecilia and Madeleine and some super goals from Winter and Ottilie.

The second match against Granville proved to be a tougher challenge, as the team fell short in a 5-0 loss but this only made them want to come back even stronger.

The third match against Kent College ended in a 0-0 draw with both teams battling hard and with some excellent defence from Amelie and Cara.

The final group stage match was a must-win to progress and the girls rose to the occasion with a brilliant 6-2 victory against Hilden Grange, securing their place in the semi-final.

In the semi-final, the girls faced a strong Somerhill team. Despite giving it their all, they were defeated 5-1. The scoreline didn’t reflect their effort, as the team showed incredible determination and never gave up.

While the semi-final loss was disappointing, every player worked tirelessly in this last match and I was so proud of them all! Congratulations, U9A’s! KL

U9B Netball

The U9B took part in the St Michael’s Netball Tournament and enjoyed a fun packed afternoon playing 4 short games:

Granville lost 2 3

Radnor lost 1 2

Kent College Pembury won 4 0

Cumnor House won 4 0.

The girls played superbly throughout. The first two games were very close and we lost them just in the last minute of each game. Our final games showed a huge improvement in our movement, stronger shoulder passes and superb shooting from Rose and Alana. All the girls rotated throughout and grew in confidence , learning as they went. Well Done to Emma, Rose, Romy, Emilia-Rose, Libby, Lottie and Alana. SE

U9C Netball

The U9C team played at home against St Michael’s and had a great afternoon. Bonnie and Scarlett scored lots of goals and there was some great defence from Sophie and Tomiwa. Ani enjoyed playing centre and worked tirelessly around the court. Well done on a great win girls.

U9C Team Netball

U8 Netball

The U8’s all played at home against St Michael’s. The improvement of the teams’ passing and moving was evident in the games, and confidence in the circles to try and shoot. Marking is an area we need to work on, but the afternoon was lots of fun playing 5 a side and the score mixed. Well done girls!
