13A vs Saint Ronan’s School
This was always going to be a challenge due to injuries and illness the squad was depleted to just 9 players. However, in order that the match went ahead, St Ronan’s were kind enough to lend us some players and the game was played in a great spirit. The boys never gave up and showed great resilience. Man of the match for Holmewood was Tommy who continued to threaten and break the line. Well done everyone.
U12A vs Saint Ronan’s School
The U12 boys travelled to Saint Ronan’s to face a formidable, well-organised team. Despite an early setback where a knock-on led to a Saint Ronan’s try. Holmewood House quickly levelled the score and then took the lead after Odi broke through the defence after building pressure from several phases to score. Saint Ronan’s put us under significant pressure with good hands and strategic kicks, but our defence held strong. In the last 5 minutes of the game, we were leading by 5 points but had been pinned in our 22m area. Saint Ronan’s put in at the scrum 5m out from our tryline in the last play of the game, which we were able to turn over and Odi managed to break through the defence before being tackled into touch on the half way line to finish the game and secure the win.
Robust tackling by Nolan, Grayson and Digby, good hands from Charles and Ruban, and effective ball carrying by Odi, Rafferty, Xander and Edward were key to maintaining our offensive pressure, leading to a 20-15 victory. Odi, who scored all four tries was named Most Valuable Player.
U13/12 Touch Rugby vs Saint Ronan’s School
The senior touch team played an excellent game away at St. Ronan’s on Wednesday, losing a well-fought contest 5-2. St. Ronan’s started by taking an early lead, but Holmewood dug in and controlled most of the possession throughout the game. Unfortunately, they were unable to get over the line on a number of occasions as the home defence held firm. The highlight for Holmewood was some excellent interplay between Pelumi and Charlie, with Pelumi bagging both of Holmewood’s tries. Joshua and Jo also took the game to the opposition and Divit and Daniel worked hard to get involved in both attack and defence. Player of the game on the day was Pelumi.
U11A vs Saint Ronan’s School
A 20-20 draw. This was champagne rugby … without the champagne! We went 10-0 down, but recovered to lead 20-15 until the last play of the game when St Ronan’s scored. It was a fair reflection of a classic match where no side deserved to lose. All the spectators, including the coach, had a great time. Well played boys!
U11B vs Saint Ronan’s School
Well, it was great to be out on the grass once again for a match, after the recent inclement weather causing fixture cancellations. On Wednesday, we were off on our travels to St. Ronan’s. After a quick warm up, stretch off, the boys were ready. And what an epic end to end thriller it was. Scores were predominantly at the same end in both halves, due to the relief of the ground [Relief in Geography meaning slope of the land!] The standard was very high and with a slippery ball and wet conditions, the handling was good from both sides, with very few mistakes in evidence. St. Ronan’s were slightly stronger in the tackle and this ultimately proved the difference, but there was much to be positive about. The final score was 50—35 to St. Ronan’s. Great support play, off loads and straight running were all so good to see, as that is what we had been practising in various drills on Wednesday and Friday last week and indeed Monday of this week. Well tried, boys – onwards and upwards for the next match, before the hockey season starts. It really was a great advert for Prep School under 11 B team rugby.
U11C vs Saint Ronan’s School
The U11C touch rugby team delivered a dominant performance against St Ronan, sticking to our pre-match goals and executing them with precision. Our defence was sharp, cutting off attacking threats with great positioning, while our passing and support play created numerous scoring opportunities. The team’s communication and movement were outstanding, with every player contributing to the win. Well done boys!!
U10A vs Saint Ronan’s School
Boys U10A rugby team had a very tough afternoon against a very strong Saint Ronan’s team. Saint Ronan’s played some very good running rugby and although we tried our hardest, we couldn’t really stop their strong runners making in roads through our defence. We tried to maintain our defensive line and when we had the ball, we didn’t really have enough cutting edge to break their tackles. A good effort from the boys but more work to be done for next week.
U10B vs Saint Ronan’s School
This Wednesday saw the return of matches after a freezing week previously. The game was end to end and Holmewood’s direct running helped them score 7 brilliant tries. Saint Ronans played well and scored 9 tries themselves however Holmewood made some superb tackles and were unfortunate in defeat.

It was great to finally play a match after the weather had put pay to their earlier fixtures. What a match it proved to be, with some thrilling end to end touch rugby played by both teams. Trailing 30 to 25 with just minutes left on the watch, 2 late tries by George C and Oliver G sealed a deserved victory.

The U10D enjoyed a very close and entertaining match against Saint Ronan”s this Wednesday. Both teams played the game in good spirits and were very evenly matched, separated by just the one try in a very tightly contested 6-5 defeat. On a beautiful sunny Thursday afternoon all the year 4 year group went over to St Ronans to play rugby. The A’s + B’s played contact and the C’s & D’s played non-contact matches. The boys all did very well by remembering the rudiments of the game. They showed off their skills in both attack and defence. A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon of rugby was had by all. Well done boys!

U8A vs Saint Ronan’s School
The boys immediately put points on the board after direct running allowed us to break quickly through their defence, scoring in the corner after only a few phases. The boys put Saint Ronan’s on the back foot, as Leo J, Callum and Cillian rushed up to meet the attackers, securing 7 tackles and a turnover quickly to keep the pressure on their opponents. It was a dominant performance from Holmewood as the boys executed the game plan well, driving into the defence in the first couple of phases to suck in the defence, before looking for the corner to finish. A great way to start the year, well done.
U8B vs Saint Ronan’s School
The game took on a format of two halves of 15 minutes – playing 7-a-side. A very organised Saint Ronan’s side made a quick start to the game, straight away pushing Holmewood back onto their own try line. Not long into the game Saint Ronan’s took the lead with a well worked try created by some nice quick passing. Only a couple minutes later Saint Ronan’s scored again – this time with a storming run up the right flank. HH grew into the game and looked much more dangerous with Oscar and Theo starting to make some darting runs forward. However, after minutes of HH pressure an unfortunate knock on meant a HH try had to be disallowed. Just before half time Saint Ronan’s scored again. The second half was much improved for HH scoring two quick tries coming from Oscar and Reggie. Some positive attacking play and accurate passing from both teams made an exciting second half, until a clinical Saint Ronan’s side wrapped up the game with a few minutes to go.
