Girls’ Sport 29.11.24

What a fantastic start to the netball season!! All the girls in years 5-8 played against Hazelwood and we won all of the matches bar one which was brilliant!!

The U8 and 9 teams had a learning match, as they are still very much building the foundations for the match play and had a very productive afternoon.

1st Team Netball

With a very strong team of girls we travelled to Hazelwood to play our first match of the season. It was on the chilly side, but full of excitement and energy the girls were faultless in the first quarter and performed brilliantly throughout the court. Making it a little fairer for the opposition the team all mixed and changed positions in the subsequent quarters and it was fun to still be well ahead and play a variety of different positions. A great win for the first match and Harriet was nominated as girl of the game. Next week we play Cumnor and Brambletye which will be much tougher, and so we will need to play our own game of skillful, well-timed netball.

U13B Team Netball

The U13 B team had a fantastic win against Hazelwood. Each quarter displayed an even level of skill between the teams with Holmewood either winning by one or two goals or drawing the quarter with Hazelwood. Having Betsy in centre really helped the team with her quick movements to intercept the ball over the whole court. The girls in goal attack and shooter played brilliantly with Astrid scoring a total of 8 goals and Charlotte and Phoebe both 5. Saskia and Hen worked great together on the wings always staying between their player and the ball. Davincia was an amazing defender against one of their star players, continuing to stick by her and block most of her passes. Phoebe was named girl of the game and the final score came to 18-12 to Holmewood.

U13C Netball

The U13C team made a fine start to their season. The girls played a variety of positions and their teamwork was excellent as they passed the ball through the court. The shooting was accurate and winning 15-11 was the icing on the cake for a great afternoon’s play. Well done girls!

U12 Netball

This was a great first outing for this year group who played as a whole squad away at Hazelwood. All the girls played in their first-choice position and rotated after every quarter. Strong play from the start with good movement and communication through the court. It was pleasing to see how well the girls quickly settled into different positions at every quarter with a really good understanding of the role each position requires. Top shooting from all 8 shooters on the day showing good versatility. Well done to all the girls for great sportsmanship and also to Charlotte H, Trixie, Aisla and Delilah who kindly stepped in every quarter to make up the opposition numbers

U11A Netball

We had a large squad for this game as they were split into 2 teams and the girls did a great job rotating through different positions. The girls were a little rusty with their footwork but they were

passing the ball nicely through the court and fighting for every lose ball and at times the timing of the moves were brilliant. A great start to the season with lots to work on moving forward.

U11B Netball

Great first game for the girls. Even though the end score was 3-2 to Hazelwood. The girls had a great netball match and worked brilliant together. Some brilliant passing and shooting. They didn’t give up and was so close. Well done Girls. Girl of the match was Amaia. EB

U10 Netball

The Under 10A team had a good game, winning 4-1. Some lovely passages of play and some brilliant defending from Fi & Temi, with Temi being awarded POM.

The B team had a brilliant game with both sides scoring, ending up in a win of 6-5. Fast passes meant we attacked down the court to goal, POM was given to Amelie

The C team played in the sports hall and worked hard to keep possession. Unfortunately, we couldn’t score the goal but Rebecca played brilliantly and kept the score down. Well done girls.

The Under 10C team in the sportshall

Under 9 Netball

A slightly warmer afternoon this week and the girls played a 7 a-side game. The posts were set at 8ft for this game so the girls shots were sailing over the top, however once they got used to it the goals started flowing for both teams. We’ve been working on creating space and whilst this was often forgotten about there were signs at times that the girls were trying hard to utilise this and the ball was passed nicely through the court. We’ll continue to work on this throughout the season and hopefully see the improvements. A great fun afternoon, well done girls.

Under 8 Netball

The girls were very excited about the first netball match actually in the netball season and showed some real progress from the match v St Ronan’s earlier in the term. They passed the ball beautifully up the court and showed improvements in basic skills of passing and moving. Playing 5 a side meant they all had to work hard. Well done to all the girls and we look forward to another training session on Thursday. Well done girls!
