About Greenpower
The Greenpower Club at our school has been running for just six weeks, and already our young engineers from Years 6, 7, and 8 are making incredible progress. This club focuses on designing and building electric-powered cars, combining creativity, teamwork, and practical skills.
In Greenpower club, we have been working on the frame for the car. So far it looks like it is going to be an amazing project, and all the members are loving it. We have even been making a site for people to donate to us! We have been looking at inspirational car designs for our car and we looked at Ferrari and the evolution of their cars. We saw similarities between their first cars and ones that are made for Greenpower tournaments. The design was the same in a lot of aspects.
I talked to some of the people in the club and I quote “This club is a really cool club and one that I’ve been looking forward to.” They’ve also said “Greenpower is the perfect way to end the week”.
We are doing tests in the upcoming weeks on who is going to be the driver and who is going to be going to the race.
We have three groups within the club; the building of the physical car, the marketing team where we try to make money for the club and the final group, which comes up with design ideas for the car. The marketing team had an idea to bring Greenpower to the Christmas fair. There are different views on what we should sell but one of the main ideas was to print 3D cars that actually work (not life size)! Our team is almost unstoppable, we have been working non-stop for weeks and our atmosphere and motivation is keeping us not just working but thriving.
Some quotes from our building team:
Year 6 Member:
“I didn’t know building cars could be so fun! Every piece we add makes it feel real.”
Year 7 Member:
“When the pieces fit perfectly, it’s like solving the best puzzle ever!”
Year 8 Member:
“Telling others about are car designs and how it works made me realize how much I’ve learned already.”
