Pre Prep Concert

On Tuesday, our Pre Prep musicians took to the stage of the Jubilee Theatre to perform in front of family and friends.

The children played so beautifully and confidently on their instruments, including piano, recorder, cello, violin and trumpet. Many of the children performing have only just started learning so it is an amazing achievement to be able to stand up in front of an audience and play with such confidence – with some wonderful final bows too! We look forward to seeing their progression as they continue to learn. Well done everyone! Danny Parker

Sound Sensations Concert

On Monday of this week many of our pupils were treated to a wonderful afternoon and evening of exploratory musical sounds and sensations.  Our visiting musician, clarinettist, conductor and workshop leader Steve Dummer led 35 pupils in a creative performance and improvisation workshop.  The children composed 2 new pieces of orchestral music – the first was an opportunity to use their instruments in different ways, such as playing behind the bridge for this strings, removing brass and woodwind mouthpieces and flutes putting their fingers in and out of the ends of their mouthpieces.  It created a crazy sound world which they turned into a structured composition ably led by Mr Dummer.  Probably the most memorable part of the workshop was creating the soundtrack to a Pixar animation film which was they performed to the parents after the workshop.
Most pupils stayed on to supper and attended the evening concert along with their parents.  Mr Dummer performed a wide variety of unaccompanied clarinet music all composed in the 20th and 21st centuries, through which he demonstrated the remarkable sounds the clarinet is able to produce.  He was joined by our own Mr & Mrs Carter for one number on harp guitar and voice respectively which was an opportunity to hear a sample of the quality and diversity of our Holmewood staff.
Mr Dummer is also Head of Woodwind at Lancing College. Lydia Carter

Good Morning Performing

On a chilly Thursday morning, our talented performers warmed our hearts with a delightful concert. Xavier surprised us with a vocal entrée before impressing on his French horn, while Edgar set an eerie tone with “Spooky Wood Hollow” on the piano. Amelie followed with the captivating “Haunted House,” and Bea’s rendition of “Vivace” and Alicia’s delicate performance of “Douce Amie” on the piano were mesmerizing. Joshua’s beautiful guitar and vocal performance of an “Aha” classic added a soulful touch. The concert concluded on a high note with Tavonga and Mayra’s stunning violin duet of “Gaudete.” Well done to all the performers! Lydia Carter
