This week was another good week with all of the girls in the prep school taking part in matches on Wednesday and then house matches during their games sessions. The Wednesday matches were against Hazelwood and the results were generally very positive with lots of wins.
1st Team Hockey
The 1st VII lost a very close game against Hazelwood on Wednesday, going down 3-2 at home. Hazelwood started brightly, with one player providing most of their defensive and attacking play. In the first ten seconds of the game, she scythed through the sleepy Holmewood defence to score and take an early lead for the away side. Holmewood then settled into the game, but another strong run gave Hazelwood a 2-0 lead before Saoirse got Holmewood on the scoresheet and back into the game. In the second half, Holmewood looked much brighter in a very even contest, but some questionable tackles halted a number of potential breaks for the home side. Eventually Hazelwood managed to find enough space for their key player to complete her hat-trick, but a goal from Francesca kept Holmewood in it and they had some late chances to press for an equaliser. Unfortunately they ran out of time and Hazelwood took the victory from what was a tense and well-matched contest DB
2nd Team Hockey
The 2nd team earned a well-fought 1-0 victory against Hazelwood in a tight and exciting match. Both teams battled hard, but our girls showed great determination and teamwork throughout. The winning goal came towards the end of the first half as Phoebe dribbled through a crowd of players to set up a well-constructed goal. The defence work tirelessly, staying strong under pressure as Hazelwood pushed for an equalizer. It was a fantastic team effort, with everyone contributing to the result. Result 1-0 Holmewood. Well done girls! DG
3rd Team Hockey
The 3rd Team delivered an impressive 4-0 victory against Hazelwood, showcasing excellent teamwork and skill. From the start, our girls dominated possession, applying consistent pressure on Hazelwood’s defence. The defence stayed solid throughout, denying Hazelwood any clear chances. A fantastic performance all around and well-earned win for the team! Well done girls! DG
4th Team Hockey
A well deserved victory to finish the season for the girls today. We started the game rather slowly, getting in each others way and not using the space very well. Half way through the half we made our first set of changes and the girls found their flow and played the kind of hockey they’ve played throughout the season but certainly the last few weeks. From Alicia in goal who made some great saves, Delilah, Esperanza and Megan were fab in defence clearing the ball wide brilliantly. Sofia, Sophia and Iris worked their socks off in the midfield linking really well with Charlotte and Lottie up front. The girls have been an absolute pleasure to coach this term with each and every one giving 110% constantly. A great season girls, well done. TB
U11A Hockey
The U11A’s had a bigger squad this week with only an A + B team out, rather than the usual 3 teams. Zoe and Nilaya joined the ranks and there was lots of rotation of the whole team. This didn’t weaken the team and it showed real versatility in their play, and understanding of the different positions. We had some excellent runs and it was great for the girls to have so many attacking opportunities. We managed to put 6 goals past Hazelwood, and, with some amazing goal keeping form Pippa, didn’t concede a goal. I was very proud of the girls’ performance as a whole unit and once again Pippa was nominated as girl of the game. Next week we move onto our final match of the season against Somerhill! SP
U11B Hockey
The B team of 8 players travelled to Hazelwood and Captain Ottilie won the toss. A really strong start with all the team working well together, moving the ball wide and at speed. A great passage of play from Ottlilie’s hit out to Charlotte on the wing, to Cassie, then to Eleanor who crossed a pin point ball to post for Ffion to finish – our first goal. There were plenty more moments of similar play with Eleanor scoring a second. The team really showed how well they have all developed this term. We just let Hazelwood score twice when our guard was down but all credit to all the players especially the forwards for consistently running back to assist in defence. Well done to Rebecca (GK), Ayla, Isabella, Ottilie, Charlotte, Cassie, Ffion and POM Eleanor for her tireless work today throughout the pitch. SE
U10A Hockey
The A team had a tough match against the opposition. Our defence (Temi and Alice) worked tirelessly trying to keep the ball out of the D and we had some brilliant passes and drives down the pitch. The team played incredibly well but just couldn’t finish their runs with a goal.
U10B Hockey
The B team had a really close game, unfortunately losing 2-3, but there were some great passages of play. Against a stronger team with some of Hazelwood’s A team having to double up the girls had to work hard and the close score was testament to their hard work and determination. Isla was awarded POM.
U10C Hockey
The C team had a brilliant game, winning 2-1. There was some great defending and Anne worked non stop for the entire match. The best passage of play was from Anne and Flo W down the right wing, across to Fleur in the D and finished off by Hannah!
Well done to all the girls KB
