Year 4 have been learning to use onomatopoeias in English and have used this week’s fireworks to inspire their poems:
As I zoom through the air
With a sparkle and a crunch
As you hear a boom and a bang
And the crowd all cheer.
I am green and blue
Like a pompom in the sky.

As I soar through the sky I am sure to light the night
I bang and I sizzle and whistle like a witches potion.
I howl in the November sky on Guy Fawkes night
As shrieking and cheering fill the night sky.

With a whizz and a boom
Up go sparks in the midnight sky.
I am a bonfire crackling at night
With warm delight.
Sparkle go the sparklers being waved around,
The yummy sasages in my belly,
A pshhhh as the final firework goes off.

Shoot, bang, sizzle in the night sky
Oh my gosh, watch it fly.
Boom crackle snap goes the bonfire
Look at the fireworks go higher and higher.
I have a huge big big light
I can’t wait to use it at bonfire night.

Whistle, crack, pop as the fireworks went up in the dark lifeless night.
Zoom, bang, boom as multicoloured shapes illuminated the night sky.
Sizzle, crackle goes the rocket like firework.

Whoosh, sizzle, bang!
The fireworks go ablaze.
Whistle, whistle, bang as a Catherine Wheel explodes in the pitch, black sky.
Whizz, whizz, bang a rocket punctures the sky with light.
