Year 5 had a great day in the Penshurst woods, learning essential bushcraft skills!🔥
They explored fire lighting and cooking in survival situations, mastering the fire triangle and how to build a strong heat source. After a tasty outdoor lunch in the beautiful woodland and a happy birthday song to Mr Morgan-Jones, they learned how to build a shelter and all about camouflage and concealment.
The children left with new knowledge and confidence that will serve them well, especially on the Year 6 bushcraft residential next year.

We recently hosted the first 'Holmewood House Online Cook Along' where Head Chef Richard from Culinera gave a live cooking demonstration online to pupils staff and parents. From menu planning and how to use knives safely to combining flavours and when to wash our hand, Richard took us through how to cook a complete dish for your family from start to finish. We also enjoyed some questions and answers throughout, ranging form favourite puddings to how to get more vegetables into your diet.
At Holmewood we are committed to Healthy Eating, and this was another great way to reinforce the education provided as part of our My Heart lessons in school. Like all good education, if we can instil those habits now, they will benefit the children for the rest of their lives. There is already great excitement on what we will cook along to next! In a manner a bit like The Great British Bake Off, it will be pudding week next time!
