Year 8 Kick Off Their Leavers Programme by Giving Back
The Children’s Respite Trust, UckfielMonday 10th May
The 8PT class post exam programme kicked off with a morning visit to The Children’s Respite Trust in Uckfield. The pupils were introduced to the work of the centre by Mr Gavin Fisher, CEO of the Children’s Respite Trust and he outlined how the centre benefits the most disabled children in the area and their carers. Pupils helped decorate part of the upper floor of the centre, by sanding down walls and applying undercoat, brainstorming ideas on how to make the maximum out of a limited outdoor space for service users and the difficulties encountered by the disabled, which able bodied people take for granted day in, day out. Ideas were also shared on fundraising for their end of year ball held in Eastbourne, which is a significant source of their annual income from this event. A great start to the leavers programme – well done 8PT on your enthusiasm, hard work and for being such great role models for Holmewood House, when demonstrating one of our core values – Kindness at the heart of the local community. The charity is supported through the hard work and dedication of the ladies who tirelessly run our school second hand uniform shop. Thank you – Saskia Paterson for coming along and supporting on behalf of the school second hand uniform shop.
