Easter Rabbit Carrot House Cake
This cake will look like an enormous carrot emerging from the ground with windows and a door as a home for a rabbit.
The children will start by learning and developing techniques working with sugar paste . They will shape and model by hand a bunny rabbit and chick using modelling tools to help them. They will create leaves which will stick out from the cake. They will learn to use different shaped cutters to create flowers and other decorations.
They will be provided with a madeira cake which they will learn how to shape and cut carefully in half, fill with jam and buttercream and crumb coat with buttercream. They will then learn rolling skills needed to roll out sugarpaste to cover the cake and use smoothing and cutting skills to finish it tidily. They will use decorating tools to add texture to their cake to make it look like a carrot top. Lastly, they will add all of the sugar paste models they have made and use the skills learnt throughout the week to add their own individual touches to their cakes to make their creations unique.
