Our new Sugarcraft courses are with Zuzi, who started this Easter.
Underwater themed cake.
This cake will look like a rock in an underwater scene.
The children will start by learning and developing techniques working with sugar paste. They will shape and model by hand a crab, octopus, starfish, stingray, shark, anemone etc. They will learn how to use silicone moulds to make different shaped shells, star fish and sea urchins.
They will be provided with a madeira cake which they will learn how to shape and cut carefully in half, fill with jam and buttercream and crumb coat with buttercream. They will then learn rolling skills needed to roll out sugarpaste to cover the cake and use smoothing and cutting skills to finish it. They will use decorating tools to add texture to their cake to add details and make it look like a rock. Lastly, they will add seaweed and other decorations and add all of the sugar paste models they have made and use the skills learnt throughout the week to add their own individual touches to their cakes to make their creations unique.
