Course Descriptions & Timetables

3D PRINTING

Pupils with existing computer use skills are welcome to join this class that will focus on learning how to use Tinkercad and Prusa MK4S 3D Printers

Tinkercad is a free online 3D design  and modelling tool that is used in many UK schools including Holmewood House. It is Kid-safe certified and ad-free. Children will learn how to create, manipulate and modify objects using the software so that by the end of the week, they will be able to print out their own small designs using one of the school’s new Prusa 3D Printers.

BAKING WITH ZUZI

A fun, hands-on baking course creating sweet and savoury treats and bakes.
Every day children will create 2 different recipes from scratch, which they can bring home to share with the rest of the family.
Participants need to wear clothes they can get messy in, or an apron, and should bring a named, lidded container each day to bring their tasty bakes home in.
(Note: This course is suitable for vegetarians but not for children with any other dietary restrictions or food allergies).
Zuzi is an experienced primary school teacher and cake maker, who has been teaching children, both mainstream and SEN (and adults!) for over 25 years. She owns a cake making business in Tonbridge and also runs cake decorating, baking and crafting classes and parties.

BIKEABILITY 1

CYCLING PROFICIENCY

Bikeability 1. This fun off road course develops your child’s bike control skills and confidence through cycle games and activities. Children also learn to use their gears efficiently, share space with other riders and develop signalling skills in preparation for biking off road.

CLIMBING

Climbing is an all-round sport which uses every muscle in the body and many parts of the brain! Our qualified instructor uses the climbing wall to teach children great hand, feet and eye coordination. When children can set their own goals and then continually keep pushing themselves out of their comfort zone to achieve them, it creates great self-esteem. The height can be a limiting factor for some children, but working together, building trust and confidence step by step, will help overcome fears. The children must have their legs covered for climbing so tracksuit trousers are best due to the harness worn. Trainers are also required.

CRAFT CLUB

This is a great course for younger children who want to develop their creative talents.  Many resources will all be used to produce a wonderful array of Easter craft activities.

CRICKET

All elements of the game will be taught with including batting, bowling, wicket keeping and fielding drills will help develop basic skills. Small games, net sessions and group work. This will be a hard ball in the 10+ group. Please bring your own cricket box.

FOOTBALL

Participants will be put through their paces by our experienced coaches from EMC Academy, practicing a range of drills to develop skills in control, dribbling, passing, shooting, goal-keeping and tactical awareness. Football boots can be worn if your child wishes, but trainers will suffice if there is a little give in the playing surface. Shin pads and a bottle of water are required for this course. Please consider the weather conditions and provide your child with sun block/rain proof jacket.

FOREST SCHOOL

These sessions can include, den building, minibeast hunts, woodland crafts, wildlife habitats, free play, environmental art, nature identification and so much more.  All run by our qualified Forest School practitioner.

GYMNASTICS

Former Olympian Natalie Davies leads this course for both boys and girls, from beginners to intermediate levels. Children learn basic floor skills, incorporating co-ordination skills to enhance body control, balance and rolling moves. Rebounding skills will be taught, enabling children to use the vault.

HOCKEY

Learn some stick skills, passing, running with the ball and shooting. Please wear shin pads and a mouth guard.

LUCY'S MUD GANG

Come rain or shine have fun in the outdoors.  Activities can include building dens, camps and fires. Come prepared for all weathers i.e wellies, raincoats and hats but hopefully suntan lotion.

MULTI ACTIVITIES

This allows children to explore and enjoy diverse sports and activities. Every session is different delivering a range of exciting games to build confidence, social skills and improve fitness.

PLAYSCHEME

The Playscheme runs from 9.00-5.00 each day throughout the holiday course programme with the option of morning, afternoon or full days. If staying for the full day, please bring a packed lunch.

Children will be accepted on a first come first served basis, up to a maximum of 24 children. Children can now be enrolled for individual sessions/days to give you more flexibility.

The Playscheme is run by members of Holmewood House Nursery and Pre-Prep staff and children are dropped off at the Nursery building, not registered in the Jubilee Theatre like the other children.

SHOOTING

Shooting is an activity that requires a steady hand and keen eye. It provides excitement, but also helps children to improve discipline, self-control and a calm attitude. It is a skill and will take time to master; but improvement will be seen over this course and the children will gain a real sense of achievement as their skill levels and hence their scores improve. Rifles used fire .22 live rounds and the range is indoors so this is not a weather-dependent activity. This course involves both theory as well as practical.
