Girls’ Sport

Spring had definitely sprung on Wednesday with all of the matches and tournaments going ahead. With teams playing Hazelwood, Somerhill and tournaments at St Michael’s, all girls from years 5-6 had a fun packed afternoon of netball.

Under 13A Netball

The 1st team travelled to Hazelwood and, after a good warm-up, started strongly with the game going goal for goal. Hazelwood had one particularly strong player who dominated the circle and scored the majority of their goals.

In the second quarter, we dug deep and stayed competitive, going into half time only a couple of goals down. We again found it difficult to maintain momentum in the third quarter, but the team showed great determination and brought the game back in the fourth.

Unfortunately, we couldn’t quite close the gap to take the lead, but the team worked hard against strong opposition to secure a respectable final score of 13–19. Girl of the Game was Trixie. Next week, we’ll look to build on this performance and keep up the hard work when we face Benenden. SP

Under 13B Netball

The U 13B team got off to a slow start against Hazelwood trailing 9-2 after the first half. In the final quarter they came out with refreshed energy and determination and stormed through that quarter winning it 5-2, finishing the game with a respectable 11-7 loss. Sofia H was girl of the game after some pin-point shooting. AF

U12 Netball

Hazelwood only had one team of girls for the U12’s to play so we split into 2 teams and played against Hazelwood and also against ourselves. There was some lovely play from both our teams and I could see how hard the girls have been working on the targets given from last weeks matches. There were lots of goals scored and some good interceptions too. The B team girls managed to play a variety of positions which was lovely to see and the A team then played a quarter against the Hazelwood U13b team and came away with a win which was a great improvement from when we had played them in the tournament last week. Well done girls. TB

Under 11A tournament at St Michael’s:

We had a fantastic afternoon and I am so proud of the girls! We won the first 3 matches against Radnor House (6-0), Rose Hill (4-0) and Hazelwood (4-0) with some good defence work and strong shooting skills. Our 4th match against St Michael’s was tough but the girls played really well, but sadly we lost 0-3. We had to win the next match against Wally Hall in order to get through to the Semi Finals. Wally Hall managed to play some great netball and their shooters were exceptional, beating us 5-0 and they went on to win the Tournament overall.

I was impressed by the girls’ team spirit and they did not give up – Well done everyone! KL

Under 11B Netball

The Under 11B team took part in a tournament at St Michael’s Prep School.

The girls secured 4 excellent wins and 1 draw to finish as the winners of Group B, before they played an additional semi-final and final. They played a fantastic game in the semi- final to win, before a closely contested final where they narrowly lost 2–4 , finishing as the runners-up of the tournament!

Across the matches, there was clear improvement, particularly in running forward to receive the ball and passing accurately and precisely to each other. Their positive attitude and consistent effort were evident in every match. Great Job girls! JC

U11C Netball

The U11C girls played a fantastic triangular on a sunny Wednesday afternoon against Hazelwood and Reigate St Mary’s, showing great determination and teamwork throughout. The afternoon got off to a positive start with a 1–0 win against Hazelwood. It was a fast-paced match with excellent movement across the court, strong communication, and some brilliant defence that helped the team stay focused.

The second match against Reigate St Mary’s was an exciting contest. By this point, the girls had really settled into their play and their confidence showed, resulting in a well-deserved 4–2 victory. The team worked seamlessly together, supporting one another in both attack and defence. A huge well done to Anne and Matilda, who were named Girls of the Game for their outstanding performances. Overall, it was a brilliant afternoon of netball and a performance the whole team should be very proud of. LM

U10A Netball

U10A’s started with a tough match against Somerhill to start their triangular. With Somerhill managing to score, we worked hard to get the ball down the court. Second match against Hazelwood showed far better play down the court from the Holmewood team, clearing to create space and getting the ball down the court. Well done to Romy and Margot for working solidly in the centre court to get the ball from defence to our shooters. KB

U10B Netball

The Under 10B girls had an excellent afternoon of netball at Somerhill, where they played two short matches. The first was against a strong Somerhill side, and despite some good passing and teamwork, they lost 0-4. The girls were much speedier around the court in the second match and their efforts paid off in their 4-0 victory against Hazelwood. Well done to Sophie for scoring 3 of the goals and for being named as girl-of-the-game. Congratulations to Tolu who was named as girl-of-the-game in the first match. AP

U10C Netball

U10C’s showed huge progress with all their hard work in recent games sessions. Somerhill pulled ahead at the first quarter, Holmewood creating space and driving forward for the ball. POM was awarded to Tomiwa and a special mention to Zara who worked hard throughout the match as C getting the ball from one end of the court to the other. KB

Under 9 Netball

On Thursday, it was touch and go as to whether the matches would take place. However, we decided to go ahead as the weather has been so wet all term. It proved to be the right decision, and the girls performed brilliantly, showing great progress across the board against Somerhill.

The passing was strong, and the defensive marking was excellent. The shooters worked hard to get in front of their opposition, and there were some fantastic interceptions through the centre court.

All in all, it was a great afternoon of netball with the following results:

A Team:
Won 5–4 – Girl of the Game: Isla Strettle

B Team:
Won 3–1 – Girl of the Game: Izzy Cook

C Team:
Lost 5–3 – Girl of the Game: Benny SP
