French Day
We have researched France learning about different food which made us rather hungry! In art we learnt about the artist Matisse and recreated his famous collage of Icarus.

In Maths this week, the children have been exploring the relationship between repeated addition and multiplication, gaining confidence in recognising how the two link together. They have been learning to use arrays and have enjoyed creating their own equal groups to represent different number sentences.
2CT clearly and confidently performed an assembly ahead of Number Day today. The children explained why numbers are so important and shared some of their favourite number jokes. We particularly enjoyed: “What did the triangle say to the circle? You are pointless!” and “What do you get if I hold five apples in one hand and six oranges in the other? Big hands!”
The children then performed a wonderful short play about a young penguin called Pip, who wanted to discover how big a million really was. She found 10 fish, 100 penguins, 1,000 snowflakes and, finally, 1 million stars, which were far bigger and more beautiful than she had ever imagined, though very tricky to count.
In Topic, the children have been learning about how communication has changed over time. They explored the ways in which phones have developed and how messages are sent and received today compared with the past. A particular highlight was using Morse code. The children loved writing their own names using the dots‑and‑dashes system.
In English, the children have been busy writing some wonderful stories inspired by The Sand Horse, using descriptive language to bring their ideas to life. They have also been learning about imperative, or “bossy”, verbs and identifying the key features of instructional writing, with a particular focus on recipes. To support their ongoing Topic work, the children have additionally been researching facts about France, developing their understanding through a range of engaging activities.
