Girls’ Sport 30.1.25

Thankfully the rain held this week and we had a full compliment of sport and fixtures which was fantastic!!

The U13A and B teams played in a versatility tournament at Hazelwood which was great fun and very frantic.

The U13A team rushed onto court after being delayed by road closures and played their first match against Sevenoaks Prep, which they won. The second game against Wally Hall proved more challenging; with very tall goals, Wally went on to take the win.

The following two matches against Hawthorns and Hazelwood both finished in draws, before a final tough game of the day against Downsend.

Versatility is great fun and also extremely valuable, helping the girls understand how different positions play and the pressures each role faces within the game. Well done to the girls, who seemed to thoroughly enjoy the afternoon.

Next week, we look forward to matches against Hazelwood, which will be particularly interesting as we return to playing in our usual positions. SP

U12A Netball

The U12 girls had a fun afternoon of netball and worked hard in their games. Unfortunately, versatility to shoot made it hard for the goals to score the much-needed goals and so they found the going tough. Well done girls on showing great spirit and supporting each other throughout. Onwards and upwards for matches against Hazelwood next week. SP

U13B Netball

This Wednesday the U13B team hosted Marlborough House Vinehall and St Andrews in a triangular tournament. Holmewood got off to a strong start in their first match against MHV and proved to be too strong for the opposition winning 10-2 with Delilah claiming girl of the game for a determined defensive performance.

The second match, this time against St Andrews, was a fiercely contested game which was very evenly matched. Holmewood House showed great motivation and resilience and won the game 6-5 with Charlotte C and Alicia being awarded joint girls of the game. Overall, a strong showing from the girls who are continuing a successful netball season. AF

U12B Netball

The Under 12 Bs enjoyed a very successful afternoon against St Andrew’s, demonstrating speedy passes and excellent communication skills in their 12-6 win. The first quarter was extremely close, ending 1-1, but the Holmewood girls pulled away in the second and third quarters, when Nilaya and Amaia combined to score ten goals between them. St Andrew’s pulled back three goals in the final quarter but Holmewood

House emerged victorious at the end of an exciting game. Special mentions go to girl of the game Nilaya for her attacking and Maya for her defence. AP

Under 11A Netball

The Under 11A team took part in a Triangular match against St Andrews and Marlborough House Vinehall.

In a closely fought game against St Andrews, the girls narrowly lost in the last quarter 5-6 despite a strong team effort. They then produced an excellent performance against Marlborough House Vinehall, winning convincingly 8-0.

Across both matches, there was much better passing down the court, allowing the team to move the ball quickly and create scoring opportunities. Defensive work was effective throughout, putting pressure on the opposition and winning back possession, while the shooters finished with some great goals. A positive and encouraging performance from the whole team. Well done to Darcy F and Fiyi who were awarded “Girls of the Games”! KL

U11B Netball

The U11B’s had a great two matches at Marlborough House, Vinehall, coming away with two wins of 11-1 and 14-0, with the girls of the game being Darcy and Amalie. The girls showed fantastic teamwork in both games, with outstanding footwork and defence all over the court. The team listened carefully to feedback and made improvements as the games went on. Well done girls! JC

U11C Netball

U11C vs St Michael’s Prep School Final score: 8 – 4 to Holmewood house

The U11C team put in a confident and well-organised performance to secure an 8–4 win against St Michael’s Prep School.

The team showed great energy and focus, moving the ball quickly through the court and creating scoring opportunities in the attacking third. Strong passing and good teamwork. Defending was great today.

Well done girls, player of the match went to Anna. EB

U10A + B Netball

The U10A & B teams played St Andrews and Marlborough house Vinehall and at St Andrews this Wednesday.

A’s made huge improvement playing against St Andrews, clearing and driving down the court winning 6-0. POM was awarded to Cecilia.

The B’s played Marlborough house and with excellent use of space, working the ball down from defence to our shooters with POM awarded to Alana, they won 8-0. KB

U10C/U11D Netball

Such fantastic team spirit was shown by the mixed U10 and U11 girls on Wednesday. It was a challenging match against St Michael’s, but the team kept their spirits high throughout and showed great determination to play their best. Some great calling for the ball and all girls tried hard to think of spacing and positioning. A special mention goes to Lottie, who scored a fantastic goal from long range. Although the final score was 8–1 to St Michael’s, all the girls should be very proud of how hard they worked. Well done to everyone, and congratulations to Tomiwa for being awarded Girl of the Game. LM
