Year 2

2KM Assembly

Today was 2KM’s assembly all about kindness. The children delivered their lines beautifully, and every word could be heard! We ended the assembly with an amazing song about kindness, which we loved performing for the Prep-Prep and parents. Katie Mackay

Mathematics

This week in Maths we began our new topic on multiplication and division. The children have learnt how to recognise and make equal amounts, supported by lots of practical work grouping counters to help secure their understanding. We also introduced the idea of repeated addition and explored how this links to multiplication. To build on this, the children were introduced to the multiplication symbol and have enjoyed using it in simple number sentences.

English

In English, the children have been identifying present‑tense verbs and converting them into the past tense. We have also explored the past progressive tense, for example was lying, and discussed how it adds detail to writing. The class read The Sandhorse by Ann Turnbull and were inspired to design their own sand animals, thinking carefully about their appearance and how they move. They have now planned their own versions of the story and are looking forward to writing them next week.

Topic

In Topic, we have been learning about how toys have changed over time. The children examined toys from different periods, discussing similarities and differences and exploring how materials and designs have developed over the past century. They particularly enjoyed making their own traditional toys, including catapults, ball‑and‑cup games, and flying birds.
