Year 7

Forest School

Year 7 have been teaching each other how to build shelters with limited resources and lots of ideas! They also enjoyed their free time in the ‘Mud Kitchen’ and on the swing. And digging of course! Katie Seecharan

Year 7 have been collecting data on weathering around the school site.  They have looked at biological, chemical and physical weathering, giving each at score at their chosen sites.

In the classroom they have been drawing a divided bar chart and will be then analysing their results and drawing conclusions.  Will their original hypotheses be correct or incorrect? Katie Seecharan

War poems by Year 7

Red fire scattered across the landscape,
England, France and Russia sent their forces to conquer Germany and the rest of the axis.
Machine gun fire roared across no-man’s land,
Ending lives every day.
Memories of fallen friends still stuck inside their heads.
Britain’s forces pushed out of France as the Germans attacked,
Every continent pulled into mass destruction.
Remember them in our hearts, minds and heads.
Teddy

Resilience for our country,
Even if it was bucketing down, the soldiers had to fight.
Memories that you can’t unsee.
Every soldier lived in the trenches,
Most suffering from trench foot.
Bravely they fought on:
Ruinous, destructive, dreadful.
All will remember them,
Not everyone came back.
Come on chaps, the gas is coming!’
Eleven, eleven, eleven.
Arlo

Silence once a year, to remember terror and fear.
Soldiers gone and lost, sadness all across.
Telegrams in the morning to tell them how they died,
Standing there they listened to the silent screams outside.

Never will we know how awful it was down there,
Crawling through the trenches, all their clothes a tear.
Running through the rain, poppies on the ground,
Then suddenly they stopped to hear an earth-shattering sound.
Ffion

Remember all the soldiers that passed,
Everyone who thought their lives would last.
Maybe in another life it wouldn’t have ended this way,
Excited and ready for the new day.
Making each and every single day count,
But sadly now people live in doubt.
Running through the pouring rain,
All hiding their pain.
Now we remember all those who died,
Cried and tried.
Every person in the world will remember them.

Year 7 were set the task of writing a postcard describing ‘A recent trip to Paris.’ In doing so, they practised using the past tense to recount events, explored how to express opinions clearly, and incorporated time phrases to add detail and structure to their writing. Mme Simpson

Year 7 enjoyed an excellent cross curricular trip to Canterbury earlier today. The group had wonderful tours of the Cathedral with outstanding tour guides. They saw the nave, crypt, cloisters, stunning stain glass windows, chapels, Archbishop seat, west entry door and the site of the gruesome murder of Thomas Becket in the martyrdom. The pupils then saw an excellent audio visual presentation in the education centre on the history of Canterbury Cathedral. Following this we were met by staff from King’s and taken to lunch in one of the delightful dining rooms, before having tours of the school with Old Holmewoodians – Daniel, Adanna, Xavi, Theos and Eric. Also great to briefly catch up with Bea Perry and Edison Ke. A great day of learning all round. PMJ
