The Year 5 children have been creating studies from the Tove Jansson’s illustrations for ‘The Hobbit’. First, they lightly sketched out the outlines using a 2H pencil then used fineliners and brush pens to create the textures and tones in the style of the artist. Tom Johnson / Keith Siddle
Trip to Ashburnham Place
Year 5 had a fantastic day out at Ashburnham Place, enjoying a range of outdoor activities and learning experiences in a beautiful natural setting.
The day began with apple juice pressing, where pupils collected apples and used a traditional press to make their own delicious juice. They also took part in a fun woodland cooking session, making flatbreads and beetroot hummus – with many surprised at how tasty it was!
Another highlight was exploring woodland ecology, where children learned about the importance of biodiversity through looking at how the gall wasp affects the genetic makeup of an acorn. The session helped them understand how everything in nature is connected.
Throughout the trip, Year 5 showed great enthusiasm, teamwork, and curiosity. They represented the school brilliantly and came away with new skills and a deeper appreciation for the natural world. Danny Parker
