Girls’ Sport 10.10.25

1st Team Hockey

The U13 Girls’ 1st Team travelled to Marden to face Dulwich Prep and produced an excellent all-round performance to secure a deserved 6–3 victory.

From the first whistle, the girls showed real attacking intent, with Bella and Trixie combining superbly up front to put the opposition under pressure. Their link-up play created a number of early chances, and by half-time Holmewood held a well-earned 3–1 lead.

In the second half, the team continued to dominate possession and territory, moving the ball confidently and creating plenty of scoring opportunities. Although several chances went narrowly wide, the girls’ persistence paid off as they added further goals to seal the win.

Bella was in outstanding form, netting a hat-trick, while Trixie, Millie, and Antonia each added a goal of their own. It was a performance full of energy, teamwork, and attacking flair — a fine result that reflects the growing confidence and cohesion within the squad. Girl of the game was Trixie for her outstanding work down the right-hand side, creating countless scoring chances and selflessly looking for passes at every opportunity. DB

2nd Team Hockey

The 2nd hockey girls battled to an exciting 0-0 draw against Dulwich Prep. Despite creating plenty of chances and dominating much of the game, the team just couldn’t find the finishing touch to convert their pressure into goals. Our forwards worked tirelessly, and the midfield kept the tempo high throughout. In defence, the girls were outstanding, calm and determined, keeping Dulwich at bay with superb tackling and teamwork. A good draw but lots to work on! Well done girls! DG

3rd Team Hockey

The 3rd XI girl’s hockey team displayed great skill and determination on Wednesday against Dulwich Prep earning a 4-1 win. The girls came out strong and played with energy and control, scoring an early goal and keeping momentum throughout the game. After leading 2–1, they pulled away in the third period with two more goals. Strong defence and solid goaltending helped secure the result. After our previous matches in the season, it was great to see the girls step up and put into the play the skills we have been working on in practice. MI

4th Team Hockey

The Girls’ 4th Team put in a fantastic performance to beat Dulwich 2-0.

A well-taken first-half goal and a brilliant strike in the second half secured the win. Strong defending and great teamwork throughout kept Dulwich at bay.

Well done to Charlotte H who was awarded Girl of the Game. KL

U11A Team Hockey

The U11A team travelled to play at Dulwich Prep and got off to a great start in the match. With goals quickly under their belts, the Holmewood team dominated play with great positioning and strong passing. There was lots of rotation of the positions and still we dominated scoring a total of 7 goals. We did let a sneaky second half goal in, but generally Holmewood played brilliantly and showed their true potential.

Ella scored a hat trick whilst Darcie added 2 more and Amelie and Fiyi scored 1 each. Player of the match was Mayra, but the team played well as a whole, and I was proud of their performance which has set them up for a great day on Monday at the IAPS. SP

U11B Team Hockey

The U11B team had a large squad this week but all girls played well and it was evident that their understanding of the positional play and their play on the ball have improved. Isla played a great centre forward and scored the team’s first goal from the top of the D. We dominated the play and had most of the possession, but a lapse in concentration towards the end of the second half saw our opposition score. Going into the second half 1-1, the girls were very determined and Emelia and Flora were strong in defence. We had a great phase of play with Marsaili taking the ball down the right and Darcy scoring a second goal and winning 2-1. Well done to all the girls and we look forward to playing St Michael’s next week. SP

U11C Team Hockey

Won 3 0

We welcomed Dulwich and Captain Florence won the toss and elected to push back first. We worked incredibly hard with plenty of play in our attacking half. Fleur and Annabelle were instrumental in keeping their goalie busy with good attempts to score and Tamzin managed the first of her 2 goals. Her second came from a great hit out in defence to Anne who used impressive stick skills to outmanoeuvre her opponent and a powerful pass to Tamzin who scored. The third came from Fleur

who was positioned beautifully at the far post, after positive play and determination from everyone. Our goalkeeper Hannah confirmed that her job had been all the easier today as our defenders, in particular Florence W and Tavonga had been amazing.

Well Done to the whole team and to POM Anne and Tamzin. SE

U10

On Saturday, seven of our U10 players took part in a tournament at Rose Hill. Following a brief indoor hockey session on Friday, the team put their practice to good use, starting strong with an impressive 2-0 victory against a well-organised St Michael’s side.

Moving outdoors into windy conditions, we lost a bit of composure and found ourselves 0-3 down at half-time against Somerhill. However, after a quick team talk and some tactical adjustments, the players showed great resilience, holding firm in the second half and preventing any further goals.

Back indoors for the next match, we dominated the first half and went into the break with a 4-1 lead. Unfortunately, with our left winger unavailable and Winter suffering a tough collision, St Ronan’s capitalised and managed to claw back a draw.

In the final two matches—both played outside—the team bounced back with determination. We edged a hard-fought 2-1 win against a strong Rose Hill side, followed by a disciplined 1-0 victory over The Mead.

With all results in, the HH team finished a fantastic 2nd overall—well done to all the players for their effort, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the day! KB

U10A Team Hockey

The U10A team maintained their impressive run of form with a convincing 3-0 win against Dulwich Cranbrook’s Colts B side.

A strong start saw Alana open the scoring within the first few minutes, setting the tone for a dominant performance. The team controlled much of the possession, keeping the pressure on their opponents throughout.

Defensively, the team held firm when tested. Amelie made some key saves in goal, supported by solid clearances from Emma, Maddie, and Cara, who remained composed under pressure.

In the final eight minutes, the attacking momentum continued. Cecilia and Margot consistently drove the ball up the pitch, creating several chances, while Romy positioned herself well to keep the pressure high. Winter eventually broke through the defence to score the second goal, and Alana sealed the win with her second of the match, bringing the final score to 3-0.

A fantastic team effort and another well-deserved win! KB

U9 Hockey

The U9s enjoyed a lovely sunny afternoon of hockey in their fixture against Dulwich Cranbrook. The team put in a great performance, with some excellent attacking play and impressive runs with the ball.

Special congratulations to Issy, Daisy, and Maggie for their well-taken goals. Credit also goes to Flossie, India, Arwen, Ellie, and Naomi, who worked tirelessly in defence and helped keep the opposition at bay.

Well done to all the players for their enthusiasm and teamwork throughout the match! KB

U8 Hockey

The U8 girls were incredibly excited to be playing their first ever away match and were all organised with gum shields, shin pads and water bottles… well done girls!!

We travelled by mini-bus and after a quick warm up, once again played in mixed teams and rotated our 4 teams around their 3 teams. The girls had lots of fun and some are running extremely well with the ball. We scored lots of goals and generally had a great afternoon.

Next week will be tougher against Somerhill, but we look forward to our last matches before half term. SP
