Year 8 Visit to Portsmouth’s Historic Dockyard

Year 8 pupils recently enjoyed an educational and exciting day at Portsmouth’s Historic Dockyard. Their visit began with a workshop at the Mary Rose Museum, where they investigated the reasons behind the ship’s sinking. This was followed by a guided tour of the museum, offering pupils a close-up view of fascinating objects recovered from the wreck.

A highlight of the visit was the new 4D immersive experience, allowing pupils to dive into the dramatic story of the Mary Rose’s discovery and recovery from the seabed. The group then took a harbour tour by boat, where they saw modern Royal Navy ships and learned about the rich history of the dockyard.

To finish, pupils visited the iconic Spinnaker Tower, which provided stunning views of the surrounding coastline, the Solent, and the Isle of Wight. It was a memorable day full of learning, exploration, and new perspectives on maritime history.

French

Year 8s have been revising AVOIR, one of the key verbs needed for forming the past tense. They played a game of 5 in a row, trying to get all their tokens in a line and block their opponents. A great starter for our lesson. Mme Simpson
