Year 2 12.9.25

The children have had a wonderfully busy start to their time in Year 2. In Maths, we have been deepening our understanding of place value, learnt how to use a place value chart. We have explored how numbers can be partitioned into tens and ones, and have even extended this to include flexible partitioning.

In Science, we began our topic on how materials can be changed by revisiting the different types of materials and their properties. The children have enjoyed investigating how materials can be grouped and discussing how everyday materials behave.

In English, we have been reading the story John Patrick Norman McHennessy, The Boy Who Was Always Late. The children have loved engaging with the story through a range of activities, but the highlight was definitely pretending to be John and receiving lines from the teacher! It was a brilliant way to bring the story to life.

English

As part of our first English lessons based on John Burningham’s, ‘John Patrick Norman McHennessy: The Boy Who Was Always Late’, in partners we came up with our own excuses as to why we were late for school. The children came up with some fantastic ideas! Katie Mackay

Despite a rather soggy and windy forest school last week, the children had great fun making paper kites!
