Girls’ Sport

1st Team Cricket

The U13 girls played in hardball pairs cricket match against Benenden this week. In their last game of the season, they performed really well and bowled and batted with confidence and accuracy. It was a very strong performance, which result in a good win. It has been a pleasure to coach these girls this term and I wish them all the best for the future.  JH

2nd Cricket v Benenden

On an idyllic afternoon, we arrived at Benenden to play our final game of the term. Benenden won the toss and put us into bat first. Really strong hitting from the onset with fours aplenty, timing the ball beautifully and now looking for the extra runs wisely. A tremendous 39 from Bella and Tilly, well supported by Sofia and Sophia (23) and Harriet and Darcie (21). A handsome 294 at the close. Our bowling was at its best today. Just 2 wide balls from 64 bowled and good line and length. Wickets bowled by Sophie R (2), Maisie (1) and Davincia (1) and a great run out by Maisie in the last over. Again our fielding was sharp with good anticipation and reaction to the ball and excellent execution. A real delight to see how well the girls have come. Well Done to Captain Maisie, Darcie, Tilly, Bella, Sofia, Sophia PoM Batter Harriet and Bowler Davincia. SE

3rd Team Cricket

What a way to finish the season with another spectacular win – an unbeaten season for the 3rd team and a fantastic level of cricket throughout. We were playing on the pond pitch which had a drier surface than we were used to, using an incrediball. We won the toss and fielded first, a pair had to bowl again due to numbers. Best bowler was Alicia who conceded -5 runs in 1 over, followed by Maddie and Blanca who conceded 0 runs in an over.

After a short rest from the baking sun we stepped up to bat. Best batter was Maddie with 23 runs in 1 over, followed by Alicia with 15 runs in 1 over. Hazelwood selected Eva as the best bowler and Maddie as the best batter.

Well done for a great season, it has been a pleasure to coach the 3rd team and you have all made excellent progress in your cricket ability.    TD

U10A Team Cricket v St Michael’s

The U10A team wrapped up their fantastic cricket season with another impressive win, this time against St Michaels’.

Batting first, the team displayed strong form with some brilliant boundaries from all pairs. Big hitters Mayra and Tavonga thrilled the spectators with powerful sixes, helping the team reach a solid total of 91 runs.

In the field, our bowlers delivered with speed and consistency. Temi, Flora, Alice, Mayra, and Fi each took key wickets, putting the pressure on St Michaels’ throughout. Despite the heat, the team showed determination and excellent teamwork, limiting the opposition to just 52 runs. A brilliant end to a successful season — well done, U10A!

U8 Cricket v St Michael’s

The Under 8 girls all travelled to St Michael’s this week for the last match of the season. We played as 3 small teams which meant the girls had lots of batting and bowling. The teams were all well matched, but Holmewood’s bowling was impressive and allowed the opposition to score lots of runs… were they better batters or was it because we bowled so much better and the ball could be hit?

The girls have really improved their understanding of the game this season and made good progress with the basic skills of batting and bowling. There is much to build on next summer as year 4’s. Very well done girls and Happy Holidays!
