Senior 2nd XI vs Saint Ronan’s School
A strong group of 8 Year 7 boys earned a comfortable yet thoroughly well deserved victory against St Ronan’s. The St Ronan’s opening pair were very strong and hit 30 very quick runs but a superb first over from Henry, along with excellent all round contributions from all the boys meant that the opposition were limited to 57. Divit and Digby were able to chase down the target with room to spare. Well played everyone.
Senior 4th XI vs Saint Ronan’s School
The 4th team hosted Saint Ronan’s in what turned out to be a thrilling encounter. We elected to bat first and made an excellent start, with the boys keeping the run rate high thanks to a flurry of boundaries and some sharp, intelligent running between the wickets.
In the field, our ground fielding was strong with several well-timed stops, and our bowling continued to impress with great accuracy. A standout moment came when Odi took a well-judged catch to help keep the pressure on the opposition.
With Saint Ronan’s needing 10 runs off the final over, the boys weren’t quite able to hold their nerve with a few over throws extending the game. However we secured a wicket to seal a memorable win. A fantastic team performance, especially considering it was the first match for some of our players. Well done to all involved!
U11A vs Saint Ronan’s School
The warmth and sunshine of the summer term continued, as the Colts A team travelled to St. Ronan’s for their latest midweek fixture. With road closures, resurfacing work and 7 sets of temporary lights, it was quite a miracle that the team arrived in time for a 2.30pm start! Various little known back lanes of Kent and East Sussex were used, as we ventured towards Hawkhurst. Holmewood won the toss and elected to bowl first on a very green wicket that looked very underprepared! A wicket off the very first ball of the match in exceptionally bizarre circumstances, got the team off to a great start. Opposition 1 for 1 off 1 ball! Rafe Bamford produced a very good ball to claim the second wicket to fall, with the score on 29. With a short boundary to try to protect, St. Ronan’s rose quickly with a strong third partnership developing and 78 was on the board, when the next wicket fell. A hard-hitting left-handed player batted well for a fine 56, before he was caught by Raife Walker on the square leg boundary. After 10 overs St. Ronan’s were 110 for 5. Even then, the bounce was proving very difficult for batsman. This proved to be the case after tea, as the wicket continued to break up. 10 bowlers were used and Louis took over behind the stumps, for the second half of the innings. St Ronan’s were all out for 137 with Joel taking the final wicket with his first ball. Tea was taken and Holmewood set about thinking about the run chase. This proved challenging, with the continued variable bounce and some balls leaping over head height, off just back of a length, with batsmen being hit at times. It was proving to be a minefield. Edmund fell to a fine catch behind, Ethan got 11 but batsmen were finding it hard to occupy the crease and keep the scoreboard ticking, as wickets tumbled. A couple of well-timed blows from Arlo towards the end of the innings, who ended up on 11, meant the score reached 62, as the innings finished. There were plenty of positives to be gained from the defeat, as I said to the players at the end of the match, as we move on to our final cricket game of the season next week, and for some, it will sadly be their final ever match for Holmewood House. Enjoy it – it has been a fabulous season! PM-J
U11B vs Saint Ronan’s School
In their first T20 match of the season, the U11Bs performed admirably in the heat. Despite an early scare following a collision in the field, they restricted Saint Ronan’s to 69 for 5. In reply, Arthur Hards and Conor Ward batted brilliantly, chasing the target without losing a wicket. Arthur’s maiden 50 was a standout moment in a well-deserved 10-wicket win.
U10A vs Saint Ronan’s School
On a scorching Wednesday afternoon, our U10A boys faced a strong Saint Ronan’s team that included a few county players. With that in mind, our boys challenged themselves to put it aside and stay focused on the task at hand. Saint Ronan’s set a formidable total of 144 for 4, with one of their county players retiring on 53*. The boys showed excellent fielding skills, with Albert, Monty, and Sebastian all taking sharp catches to support the bowlers.
Chasing the challenging target of 145, the team battled with determination but ultimately fell short, finishing on 127 for 6. Henry played a brilliant innings, scoring 40 runs and anchoring the chase through some tense moments. Despite the defeat, the boys showed great spirit and resilience throughout the match and will be eager to build on this promising performance in their next game.
Excellent performance boys!
U10B vs Saint Ronan’s School
On a hot and sunny afternoon, the U10B team took to the top of the north lawn to face St Ronan’s in a hardball pairs match. Holmewood fielded first and showed promising signs with some sharp fielding. The bowling attack kept things tight at times, with notable performances from Zachary (3 runs conceded), Arthur (-1), George C (4), George G (4), and Will H (3) across their 8-ball overs. Despite these efforts, St Ronan’s managed to post a solid total of 79 runs from their 12 overs.
Holmewood’s reply with the bat struggled to gain momentum due to a high number of dismissals—11 in total—which heavily impacted the run chase. However, there was a bright spot in the partnership between Aleksy and Arthur, who combined well to score an impressive 29 runs in their two overs.
Ultimately, Holmewood fell short, with St Ronan’s securing a 35-run victory. Despite the loss, there were encouraging individual performances and plenty to build on for the rest of the season.
U9 Kent vs Hazelwood School
The U9 Kent side delivered a dominant performance in the heat. Batting first, they made 79 fielding were equally strong, with regular wickets and some superb catches, restricting Hazelwood to just 24. A comprehensive 55-run win and a great team performance.
U9 Sussex vs Hazelwood School
On a very hot day, the U9 Sussex team faced a tough Hazelwood team. The boys showed great spirit and resilience. Batting first, we managed to put up a total of 55 runs, losing only 1 wicket. The team’s patience and focus helped build a strong foundation despite the tough conditions. In response, Hazelwood scored 47 runs but lost 4 wickets along the way. Our bowlers and fielders worked hard to keep the pressure on, making every run hard-earned for the opposition.
Overall, the boys did exceptionally well to cope with the heat and perform strongly as a team. A well-deserved effort all around!
U8A vs Hazelwood School
The U8A team travelled away to Hazelwood on maybe the hottest day of the year. HH were put into to bat first and some of the batting proved to be as hot as the weather with some monstrous hitting by Leo and Leanard as they both pulled off some mighty 6’s over the leg side boundary. What was most pleasing was that throughout the innings not a single wicket fell.
Having posted an impressive 281, HH took to the field where the highlight was the catching. Callum and Bertie both took difficult catches which ultimately meant that with 3 wickets in total HH won the game. The saying that “catches win matches” was never so true. The opposition picked Leo as their player of the day due to his excellent batting but also some accurate fast bowling for which I still don’t know how some of them missed the wickets.
Well done everyone on an excellent performance.
U8C vs Hazelwood School
The U8C team travelled to Hazelwood on a scorching hot afternoon, full of energy and excitement. Winning the toss, we elected to bat first and made an excellent start. The boys kept the run rate high with a flurry of boundaries and some sharp running between the wickets.
In the field, our ground fielding was strong, with several well-timed stops, though our bowling wasn’t quite as accurate as in previous weeks. There’s still room for improvement in our throwing and catching, but the effort and enthusiasm were clear to see.
Well played, boys—and now we look forward to Sports Day on Monday!
