Boys’ Sport 6.6.25

Senior 2nd XI vs  Sutton Valence School

With numerous 1st team regulars missing due to Common Entrance Examinations this was a chance for some promising Year 7 cricketers to shine, which they duly did. A very good quality performance in the field with particularly fine catches from Divit and Digby kept the visitors total below the 100 mark. A solid start from Digby and Divit laid the foundations for victory, albeit somewhat closer than anticipated towards the end with Joseph scoring the wining run with an over to spare. Well done to the whole team – a well deserved victory.

U11A 6-a-side – Richie Richardson

This Wednesdays the under 11s set of to Sutton valence for their 6 a side tournament. Holmewood were grouped with Kent collage and Sutton valence. They played 2, won 1 and lost 1 putting them into the second pool. Extras costing the boys progressing as group winners. The boys had a similar tale in the second part of the day winning 1 and losing the other. However, the boys played well throughout the day and eventually finished 5th.

U11A/B vs  Somerhill

On an afternoon of sunshine and showers, The A/B team welcomed Somerhill to the Colts wicket, for what turned out to be a great game of cricket. Captain Lavinia won the toss and inserted the opposition. Lavinia opened the bowling and bowled the opening batsman with the first ball of the match, bowling her left arm over deliveries. What a great start. Raife W bowled second over and kept it tight and deserved his pleasing figures of 4 overs 1 for 8. Raife J-T chipped in with 2 wickets, as did Tadiwa, as the bowling was spread out amongst the team. After 20 overs, Somerhill finished on 97-8. So, it was game on at tea with 98 needed to win, After the tea interval, it was, of course, Holmewood to bat and Arthur and Conor opened up and put on 9 for the first wicket before Arthur was well caught trying to increase the scoring rate. Conor then fell shortly afterwards to a very good ball, having looked in good form at the crease. However, it was the match winning partnership of 63 between Raife W and Louie R that made all the difference. Both ran well between the wickets and kept the scoreboard ticking – Raife ending up on 39 not out and Louie scored 16. It was left to Hugo and Raife to see the team home with 3 overs to spare – a fine 7 wicket victory and a team effort that made me so proud. Well done everyone and keep enjoying your cricket and playing with a smile on your face! PM-J

U10A vs Somerhill

Somerhill batted first and HH got off to a great start as the impressive Alex M took his first of 3 wickets with the score on just 1. His impressive opening spell saw him take 2 wickets for just 6 runs and overall figures of 3 for 9 after 3 overs. There was also good bowling from George G who took 1 for 6 and Orlando who conceded 10 runs off his 2 overs. The catching was very impressive with Arthur, Will G and Albert all taking good catches which ultimately won us the game!

Set a target of 133 to win HH set about the task with a solid 36 partnership between Will and Henry until Henry fell for 7. All the batsmen contributed significantly with Will and Arthur both scoring 18 but Albert and Alex finished off the both finishing undefeated on 22 and 27 respectfully. Well done everyone on a convincing first win of the season.

U10B vs Somerhill

The Under 10 B team made the short journey to Somerhill to play a pairs softball match. On a pitch which offered variable bounce, Holmewood scored 35 runs from their 15 overs. The total would have been much higher had it not been for frequent dismissals (11). The opposition were quicker with their running between the wickets and seemed to find the boundary with more regularity. Despite losing 7 wickets, their total was 67 runs in what was a 32-run win.

U10C vs Somerhill

In a closely fought U10C match, we were put into field first and put in a fantastic team effort to restrict Somerhill to 75 runs. Our bowlers were disciplined, taking five excellent wickets, which made a big difference in keeping their score down. Going into bat, our pairs started confidently, building steady partnerships. At the halfway stage, we needed just 40 more runs to win. Unfortunately, a few quick wickets and some tight bowling from Somerhill made scoring difficult, and despite our best efforts, we fell just short—losing the match by 6 runs. A great effort from the boys! Well done!
