As the cricket season continues, it was great to see every girl available playing a match this week. Pitched against Brambletye who have always been strong opposition in the cricket, we performed brilliantly and the results were very pleasing. The juniors also showed great strength against KC and the progress made in such a short time was evident to see.
1st Team Cricket
The girls had a fantastic game of cricket against Brambletye on Wednesday afternoon. Holmewood won the toss and elected to field first. Brambletye got off to a good start and scored a few boundaries. We then started to chip away at their batters and took a few wickets and after 20 overs, Brambletye finished on 113 for 7. Wickets were shared around the team with Hen and Astrid both taking 2 wickets each. We set about chasing the target with Betsy hitting the first ball for 4! Unfortunately, she was out shortly after but Hen and Trixie played some lovely shots and got the innings going. As we got closer to the total, a bit of panic set in and we lost a cluster of wickets! With 4 overs to go and 9 wickets down, we needed 4 to win. The tension was unbearable!! Maisie got a full toss and thumped it for 4 to win the game! Great game of cricket girls, well done! JH
2nd Team Cricket
We played our second fixture away against Brambletye. Captain Harriet put the opposition into bat. Three good wickets fell early with pinpoint bowling from Tilly, Bella and Hannah. Darcie and Sofia H both bowled maiden overs. However, we generously gave Brambletye easy runs with mishandled balls behind the wicket and in the outfield. Fielding generally improved with quicker reaction and straighter, faster balls to the wicket. We chased 66 runs. A fantastic start from Tilly and Bella with a joint partnership of 30 including 2 sixes. Our batting tailed off from there apart from Darcie who scored 20. We were bowled and run out too often today and therefore gave away crucial runs and ended 12 runs short. POM batter was Bella and bowler was Sophia H. Well Done to Tilly, Darcie, Harriet, Sophia R, Hannah and Elena. SE
3rd Team Cricket
The 3rd team had a great game against Brambletye this week and the level of play very good. Losing the toss, Holmewood were put into bat. The batting between Alicia and Eva as the first pair was very strong and Davinicia’s communication between the wickets excellent. The team gave away just 3 wickets and scored 173. Brambletye then faced the bowlers who gave away few extras during the game but need to concentrate on the whole over to avoid that one bad ball. Alicia, Davincia and Blanca all took a wicket each and the opposition finished their innings on 164. A great win for the girls with Megan as bowler and Alicia batter of the match. SP
4th Team Cricket
The Holmewood house girls 4th cricket team played Brambletye and had a great game that was evenly matched. Holmewood girls batted first, scoring 115 runs after some great hits and strategic running. The girls then did some great bowling and fielding resulting in 3 wickets and a close finish, with Brambletye acoring 107 runs. The girls were commended by Brambletye on their amazing sportsmanship and encouragement when playing. Very well done on your win and sporting behaviour girls!! MI
U11A Cricket
Our U11A team put in a spirited performance against a strong Brambletye team this week, finishing with a score of 284 to Brambletye’s 301. Although we came up short on the scoreboard, there were some real positives to take away—particularly with the bat. Several players showed great confidence and timing at the crease, with some strong partnerships helping us build a competitive total.
In the field, we missed a few chances which allowed Brambletye to capitalise and edge ahead. Catching and ground fielding will be key areas to focus on in training going forward. Overall, a promising display with some exciting potential—plenty to be proud of, and lots to build on! Batter of the match was Shekinah, Bowler of the match was Iona and Fielder of the match was Ottilie. Well done girls! KL
U11B Cricket
The Girls had a great game against a strong team. We had a great catch from Maya. The girls have really improved on their batting and bowling. We had a lot of 4s in our game. The girls played really well. Bowler of the game went to Deya and Batter of the game went to Charlotte. Well done girls EB
U10A Cricket
Another home game saw the team pick up yet another convincing win against tough opposition. Brambletye won the toss and decided to bowl first – putting HH into bat. Marsaili and Captain Darcie came out strong – hitting three boundaries during their two overs. Isla and Flora continued the powerful batting trend – scoring five boundaries during their innings and protecting the HH score by giving away no wickets. Overall HH put on a very strong batting show, managing to hit 61 runs, Brambletye were able to reduce the score with two fantastic catches in the final over. HH bowled and fielded well giving away only three boundaries during the entire innings. Ellie, Tavonga and Alice all managed to get a run-out which resulted in Brambletye ending their innings on 49 runs – unable to chase down the HH score. BW
U10B Cricket
U10B’s had their first match of the season away at Kent College. Going into bat first we managed to hit 12x 4’s and loads of singles adding up our total to 166 with Temi being awarded Batter of the match for getting 5x 4’s in a single over.
Into field second, we started with some consistent bowling and great backing up in the field. Wickets taken from Emilia, Sofia, Flo W x2 and Ella x3 with Emilia being awarded bowler of the game, Kent College only made 63 runs. Fantastic first game. KB
U10C Cricket
The U10Cs played a wonderful game of cricket winning 84-62. It was encouraging to see the girls communicating with each other and supporting their team members. Well done to Tamzin for winning bowler of the match and to Anna for winning batter of the match. Some great improvements from all players who have been working hard on their cricket skills in training. LM
U9A Cricket
We welcomed Kent College and Captain Alana elected to bat first. Some impressive batting from the start, with Winter, Bonnie, Rose and Alana scoring fours. Equally, runs came from quick singles with good speed between the wickets and there was always an eagerness to achieve a second run. Our total reached 292.
Our bowling has improved. Romy bowled a maiden over and Cecilia bowled a beautiful ball that sent the bails flying. Great fielding with everyone alert and backing up the wicket keeper or bowler. Superb deep fielding with great hands and low long barrier which prevented the opposition from scoring fours.
A great collaborative team effort. Well done to all 10 players POM Batter- Bonnie. Bowler- Cecilia. Fielder-Amelie. SE.
U9B Cricket
The Under 9B Girls Cricket team put on a fantastic performance to secure a well-deserved win against Kent College, finishing with a convincing score of 270 to 216.
There was some excellent batting on display and some of the bowling was equally impressive, with some well-earned wickets keeping Kent College under pressure throughout.
While the team can be proud of their performance, there’s still room for improvement in the field so this will be our focus in training next week. Girl of the Game goes to Maddie for her outstanding contribution – a great all-round performance with both bat and ball!
Well done, girls – a brilliant win and lots to build on! KL
U8 Cricket
Playing Kent College as one big team, it wasn’t certain how the afternoon would pan out, but it proved a great success and it was great to see all of the girls perform. Having just had a couple of training sessions, it is impressive to see how the girls have improved their bowling in such a short space of time. Florence bowled accurately and just gave away 2 runs as extras whilst both Isla and Connie took a wicket each… Isla’s with a brilliant catch she made from a hard hit! We were a little reserved when it came to batting, but Connie and Isla showed aggression and positivity soring the only 4’s of the innings. A great second game and we look forward to some productive training over the next week in readiness for the house matches. Well done girls.
