Senior 1st XI vs Hazelwood School
We hosted Hazelwood for our second fixture of the season, with the wicket and outfield looking immaculate once again. Hazelwood chose to bat first, but were restricted to just 86 runs thanks to disciplined and accurate bowling. Rafferty led the way with an impressive 4 wickets for 14 runs, supported brilliantly by Finn who took 3 for 8.
Chasing a modest target can often be tricky, especially with tight bowling, but our batters showed maturity and patience. We waited for the right opportunities and capitalised on the occasional loose delivery. Tommy anchored the innings superbly, finishing on 52 not out to guide us to an 8-wicket win.
A confident and composed performance—well done boys on a fantastic start to the season! SL
2nd X1 vs Hazelwood
The 2nd XI lost by 30 runs away to Hazlewood. After posting a target of 102, the home side bowled well and a few cheap wickets left Holmewood struggling to keep the runs flowing. Man-of-the-Match Henry batted well for his 15, but the boys fell short by 30 runs in the end. DB
U11A vs Hazelwood School
For the second match of the season, the Colts team returned to home territory and welcomed Hazelwood to our wonderful Colts square, with a beautifully prepared track to play on [ thank you grounds staff] – see photo. Hazelwood on arrival, won the toss and had no hesitation in inserting Holmewood. A wonderful opening partnership – a joy to watch, then followed with Edmund and Ethan putting on 111, before Edmund retired on a very fine 52 not out. Ethan went on to score 45 before being out on the penultimate ball of the 20 over innings. Holmewood amassed a useful looking 135 – 1 off their overs. Tea was taken at the top of the South Lawn, before it was Holmewood’s turn to take to the field. Our two left armers opened up once again, Rafe B and Lavinia and they bowled very well, keeping it tight with Lavinia getting the crucial breakthroughs and claiming a superb 3 for 23 off her three overs. Arlo, Raife JT, Oscar and Rafe W all also bowled, keeping the momentum going, before the team turned to Louis S and Ethan B to see the team home by 30 runs. Louis bowled 4 overs and took 1 for 16 and Ethan his 4 overs with 3 for 15. This was another fine team performance, for the large crowd who gathered to watch this great under 11 cricket match take place. Hazelwood certainly played their part in ensuring it was a very well contested and wonderful advert for under 11 Prep School hard ball cricket. The bowling and batting looked in good order, with a bit to work on this week on fielding, in preparation for our next match against Cottesmore next Wednesday. Well played team – you did us all proud! Keep enjoying your cricket everyone and playing with those great smiles on your faces. Well done Captain Edmund on gaining your mini bat! PM-J

Our U11B team took on a spirited Hazelwood side. After winning the toss, we elected to bowl first and applied early pressure, restricting them to just 74 runs in their allotted overs. Clemmie was outstanding with the ball, taking 3 crucial wickets. In response, our batting innings featured excellent running between the wickets, but despite our efforts, we were held to 55 runs. U11C vs Hazelwood School
Our U11C team took on a determined and energetic Hazelwood side on Wednesday. We carried that momentum into the field, delivering a disciplined bowling and fielding performance that restricted Hazelwood to just 50 runs. U10A vs Hazelwood School
The U10A team travelled to Hazelwood for their first T20 hardball fixture of the season. Batting first, William and Orlando found the unpredictable wicket challenging, struggling to score freely. Will was bowled attempting an attacking shot, and while Arthur and Orlando built a promising partnership with accurate placement and hard running. Orlando was run out after chasing two runs and Arthur was taken off guard by an inconsistent bounce. The introduction of a quick bowler proved pivotal for Hazelwood, claiming four wickets in a single over and restricting our scoring. Edgar and Zach held on admirably at the end, but the team was bowled out for 44 with an over to spare.
Defending a low total, Alex gave us a perfect start by taking a wicket with the first ball, and the fielders backed up the bowlers with great energy. Despite a disciplined effort and tight bowling, Hazelwood chased down the total with 9 wickets remaining. Arthur M was named Man of the Match for his aggressive batting and consistent bowling. A tough result, but full of lessons to take into the next game. AG
U10B vs Hazelwood School
A trip to Hazelwood ended in a tough defeat for the U10B team in their first hardball fixture of the season. Facing unfamiliar conditions and a wicket that offered highly unpredictable bounce, the boys found it difficult to settle at the crease. Despite their best efforts, we lost a few early wickets and struggled to build momentum with the bat. While there were some positive moments—particularly some brave running between the wickets and some well-timed shots—our final score of 244 (starting from 200) always felt a little below par in the context of the conditions.
With the ball, the boys worked hard to apply pressure and stuck to their fielding positions well, but Hazelwood’s batters adapted quickly to the surface and played positively from the outset. Although we managed to keep things tight in patches and there were flashes of accurate bowling, Hazelwood reached 262 comfortably within their allotted 12 overs. There is still much to build on: this experience offered plenty of valuable lessons, particularly in coping with hardball match intensity, adapting to variable surfaces, and making good decisions under pressure. The boys will be better for it in the matches to come. BC
U9 Kent vs The Hawthorns School
Missing Monday’s practice proved costly as we came up against a well-organised and disciplined Hawthorns side. Despite our best efforts, we were outplayed and fell to a 47-run defeat. Too many wickets were given away cheaply, and we struggled to build partnerships with the bat.
This match served as a valuable learning experience, reminding us of the importance of preparation and focus. We’ll regroup and work hard on Monday to bounce back stronger. Let’s take the lessons forward and keep improving! SL
U9 Surrey vs The Hawthorns School
The U9 Surrey team travelled to Hawthorns for a closely contested game of paired cricket. Senan, leading the team as captain, won the toss and chose to bat first. Theo and Mylo got us off to a solid start, running well between the wickets and scoring 12 runs off the opening two overs. The momentum continued throughout the innings with consistent singles and the occasional boundary, taking our total to a respectable 59 from 10 overs.
Our bowling effort was outstanding, with good accuracy and pace. Despite Hawthorns getting off to a fast start—scoring 10 off the first over—we quickly turned the tide. The middle spell, bowled by Senan, Freddie H, Jack, Jackson, and Fred R, was particularly effective. The boys conceded just 1 run in 5 overs, including a superb bowled and caught from Jackson. Though Hawthorns brought in some big hitters for the final overs and managed to draw the match, our boys can be proud of a tremendous all-round performance. Accurate bowling, sharp fielding, and some intelligent batting all contributed to a great afternoon of cricket. AG

After losing the toss, we were sent in to bat and delivered an impressive performance, scoring a massive 94 runs in just 8 overs. The innings was marked by some powerful hitting and excellent running between the wickets across the team.
With a solid total on the board, we knew we had a challenge ahead in the field. The boys gave it their all, saving several potential boundaries and putting in a determined effort to keep the pressure on. Despite our great fielding and committed bowling, Lingfield managed to chase down the target, finishing on 103 to clinch the win.
Well done, boys, for your fantastic effort! DG
U8B vs Lingfield College Prep
The first cricket game of the season saw the team take on a well-drilled Lingfield side. HH won the toss and decided to bat first. Considering that this was the first cricket game they have played, the team showed great determination and willingness to run. Oscar and Theo took it a step further hitting half a dozen boundaries between them! HH ended their innings on 59. Once again, the HH team showed a good attitude on the field with all 8 players eager to get bowling. The team did very well to keep the bowling straight, but in the end Lingfield were just about able to chase down the score – ending their innings on 60 after a very tense last over. BW
