Girls’ Sport 2.5.25

1st Team Cricket

The girls 1st travelled to VineHall on a beautiful Wednesday afternoon for their first match of the season. Vinehall won the toss and put Holmewood into bat. A really good start from Betsy and Hen saw a partnership build. Betsy managed to score her first 50 for the school and was retired shortly after. Holmewood managed to score 125 from their 16 overs which was a really good total. For the bowling, everyone had a chance to bowl, our accuracy was excellent and created a lot of pressure for the Vinehall batters. After 16 overs, Vinehall finished on 57 for 5 so very good victory for our girls. Well done all! JH

2nd Team Cricket

Holmewood House scored 278 runs for 2.

Bedes scored 160 runs for 7 wickets.

On a sizzling afternoon, we welcomed Bedes and Captain Phoebe Le put the opposition into bat. Some really strong bowling with good line and length and a plethora of wickets with balls bowled by Bella (2), Hannah (2) , Sophia H (1), Phoebe (1) and Maisie (1). Our ground fielding was accurate and at speed with good covering and backing up. We continued in this vein with the bat showing great confidence with Maisie scoring a tremendous 34 with 4 sixes no less. Phoebe and Sophia H both scored 24 and Saskia 23. This was a magnificent first game, from which we can take great momentum into our next match against Brambletye. Well done to Bella, Tilly, Hannah , Darcie , Sophia H, Phoebe and POM Maisie and Saskia. SE

3rd Team Cricket

A great first match for the 3rd team with a fantastic win over Bede’s. We lost the toss and therefore batted first, strong hits along with some no balls/wides built us a great number of runs. Best batter was Elena who had to bat twice due to lack of numbers, she scored 26 runs in 2 overs each time, this was followed by Davincia with a score of 23 runs in 2 overs.

A difficult target of 148 for Bede’s to beat in the second innings which they were unable to do. Best bowler was Elena who conceded -4 runs in 2 overs, followed by Kitty and Elena again; they both conceded 2 runs in 2 overs. Bede’s voted for who they thought our best bowler and batter were; this went to Kitty for best bowler and Elena for best batter. TD

4th Team Cricket

Playing on a very hot astro at Vinehall, the girls played a great game of cricket against the opposition. We went into bat first and slowly picked up runs, but unfortunately lost a couple of wickets. As our penultimate pair Alicia and Megan came into bat, Alicia hit some magnificent shots to score 27 runs! In the bowling innings, all of the girls bowled very well, but there were few too many extras giving Vinehall the edge and the win scoring 66 runs to 53. It was a pleasure to take the girls and I look forward to next week’s match v Brambletye SP

U11A Cricket

A thrilling encounter saw our U11A Girls clinch a narrow but well-earned victory over Bede’s School, winning 267 runs to 258. The team showed great skill across all areas, with strong batting partnerships, sharp bowling, and some outstanding fielding. It all came down to the final over, where the girls held their nerve brilliantly to seal the win. A fantastic team performance! KL

U11B Cricket

A great start to the cricket season. Our game may have been stopped but the girls played really well. We had some great hits. Rebecca got her first 4 for Holmewood. We were second to field and the girls worked really well as a team. Charlotte bowled a great ball and hit the wicket and then Pippa took a brilliant catch. The girls played so well and I was really proud of them. Girl of the game chosen by the Vinehall coach was Pippa for her positive and kind attitude. EB

U10 Cricket

U10A’s started their cricket season playing a home match against Vinehall (VH) on a sunny Wednesday afternoon. Starting off fielding, Darcie F and Marsaili was our opening bowling pair. A wicket taken by Marsaili and a catch by Mayra was a good start. Isla and Flora were in 2nd allowing VH limited opportunity to run. Mayra and Alice bowling was consistent and fast, only letting VH 1 run in the 2 overs. Finally, Ellie and Tavonga in to bowl, Ellie running the VH player out and Tavonga bowling fast and accurately against their strongest batter didn’t give them the chance to hit big. VH scoring 231.

Into bat and Darcie and Marsaili and some big hits 5x 4’s and some extra runs in the 2 overs gave the Holmewood side a great start. Isla and Flora continued hitting 4’s off some difficult bowling. Mayra and Alice next making some great calls running and some big hits too.  Finally, Ellie and Tavonga finishing with some steady runs, making some great decisions. Scoring 305 securing a huge win.

Oppositions bowler of the match was Mayra and batter was Alice. Super first game. KB

U9A Cricket

Our U9A Girls put in a strong effort against Somerhill in a close match, narrowly losing 248 runs to 252. There was some excellent batting and impressive bowling throughout, but a few missed chances in the field proved costly. Well done to all the girls on a very hot day and a special well done to Amelie who was awarded Player of the Match.

U9B

Holmewood House scored 231 for 1 wicket

Somerhill scored 241 for 3 wickets.

An Under 9 team of 10 girls played their first pairs cricket match away against a mixed Somerhill team on the hottest day so far this year but didn’t let the temperature bother them at all. We went into bat first. Some really confident play, watching the ball and making good contact and the runs started to mount up. Good speed between the wickets and the girls now understand the importance of good communication with early and clear decision making. We made several singles and on occasions our eagerness for the second run meant we were run out. But it’s good to see the intent at this early stage. Our bowling was generally straight with just a few wide or no balls. Now the focus is on our ground fielding and throwing accurately into hands. A great first run out. Well done to Romy and Scarlett, Zara and Libby, Sophie and Emma, Sophia and Cecilia and Anni and Adetomiwa who was POM for her wicket. SE.

U8 Cricket

Having had just 2 training sessions, the girls played their first ever cricket match v Somerhill on a beautiful, but very hot afternoon. They rose to the challenge and performed extremely well with better bowling than the opposition. This is good in terms of keeping the extras down, but provides the opportunity for the opposition to hit the ball, which a couple of their players did. The girls found the batting difficult and the concept of running to score runs is something we need to work on, but it will come as the term progresses. A great performance for a first effort and well done to all the girls
