1CH and 1BR had a brilliant afternoon in our outdoor classroom this week. We made potions by mixing different coloured waters, hunted for animals in the water tray, made drop art pieces, sorted pebbles, and played in the mud kitchen. It was a delight to welcome 1AF parents in to our Open Classroom this week. The children were able to share their work that they have done so far in Year 1. It was wonderful to see the children proudly showing their parents all that they have achieved so far, their art work their classroom environment. We had a really enjoyable cooling and calming walk through the bluebells yesterdaty and the children couldn’t believe how many there were!! The smell was incredible, and we really enjoyed standing quietly and listening to the bird song and the sounds of the leaves in the trees in the breeze.
Year 5 had a great day in the Penshurst woods, learning essential bushcraft skills!🔥
They explored fire lighting and cooking in survival situations, mastering the fire triangle and how to build a strong heat source. After a tasty outdoor lunch in the beautiful woodland and a happy birthday song to Mr Morgan-Jones, they learned how to build a shelter and all about camouflage and concealment.
The children left with new knowledge and confidence that will serve them well, especially on the Year 6 bushcraft residential next year.

We recently hosted the first 'Holmewood House Online Cook Along' where Head Chef Richard from Culinera gave a live cooking demonstration online to pupils staff and parents. From menu planning and how to use knives safely to combining flavours and when to wash our hand, Richard took us through how to cook a complete dish for your family from start to finish. We also enjoyed some questions and answers throughout, ranging form favourite puddings to how to get more vegetables into your diet.
At Holmewood we are committed to Healthy Eating, and this was another great way to reinforce the education provided as part of our My Heart lessons in school. Like all good education, if we can instil those habits now, they will benefit the children for the rest of their lives. There is already great excitement on what we will cook along to next! In a manner a bit like The Great British Bake Off, it will be pudding week next time!
