RSS rounded off the half term with a brilliant week of learning.
They delivered their first ever assembly on Goldilocks and the Three Bears, speaking clearly, remembering their lines and showing real confidence. A fantastic achievement for our youngest learners.
They also explored The Enormous Turnip, acting out the story with great enthusiasm. These drama sessions supported teamwork, listening and expressive language.
In maths, the children investigated shapes using found materials in the playground. A hands-on way to build spatial awareness and problem-solving.
Seasonal fun made its way into the playground too, with pumpkins and golf tees helping develop fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
The turnip story sparked a discussion about winter vegetables, which the children weighed and compared, linking literacy with science and numeracy.
A wonderful end to the half term, full of cross-curricular learning and joyful discovery.

Meet the heart of Holmewood Boarding 💛
At Holmewood, our house parents are at the heart of every happy home. 💫
Meet Caolan, Isobel and Ralph! The heartbeat of our boarding family.
The boarding house is overseen by the wonderful Head of Boarding, Caolan Wukics, and his partner, Isobel, as Houseparents.
Boarding is, above all, about people. In Caolan and Isobel, Holmewood boarders have Houseparents who bring both warmth and vision. Together, they create a home-from-home where children can thrive as individuals while being part of something bigger.
As Caolan explains:
‘At Holmewood, we see boarding as a journey, shaped by each child’s character, curiosity and confidence. For me, the privilege of being part of that process – watching children find their feet, their voice, and their independence – makes this the best job in the world”
And we must not forget Ralph, Caolan and Isobel’s Cavapoo, who is often
found giving cuddles in the evening.

On the 27th of September we had the pleasure of welcoming back Old Holmewoodians, who attended the school in the 1960s, and former staff, Sandy Helm and Barbara Simpson.
The event was organised in part by Old Holmewoodian Haydn Keenan, who is currently producing a film about Holmewood in the 1960s. The film highlights the multicultural nature of the school and the formative impact it has. Testimonials shown here reveal the same.
The evening consisted of a tour of the school and a wonderful gala dinner interspersed with speeches, singing and even a Shakespeare performance. Our Orangery and screens were filled with film footage, photographs and newspaper clippings documenting the years the alumni had spent at the school.
It was a truly wonderful evening which embodied everything that has made Holmewood so special across its 80 years – the life-long friendships, the community and the opportunities.
A huge thank you to those who attended, those who helped put on the event and a special thank you to Haydn for organising and inviting everyone - we cannot wait to watch the finished film.
