“Oh Stick Man, Oh Stick Man… Beware of the Muddy Children!”
We have had a very wet and wild week in nursery, but the rain did not stop us from getting outside and exploring. The children enjoyed splashing in puddles and noticing how the rain changed the ground, the leaves, and the natural materials around them.
Our story focus this week was Stick Man. The children listened with great concentration and were eager to join in with repeated phrases from the book. We talked about Stick Man’s journey, the different places he visited, and the challenges he faced along the way. The children were particularly interested in how a simple stick could become a character with feelings, a family, and a story of his own.
This led into a creative activity where the children made their own stick people. They carefully chose features for their characters and talked about what made each one unique. This naturally encouraged discussions about our own bodies and what we look like. The children explored their reflections and identified features such as two eyes, two ears, a nose, a mouth, and hair. It was lovely to see them making links between the story and their own sense of identity.
Next week, we will begin our new story, The Gruffalo. To introduce this theme, the children will be making oaty yoghurt crumble, inspired by the woodland setting and the creatures we will meet in the story.
We hope you have a fantastic weekend with your little ones.
Best regards,
Mrs Graham, Miss Oliver and Miss Ringer
