Girls’ Sport 23.1.26

This term has proved to be one of the wettest on record, and unfortunately fixtures against local prep schools have been affected. Fortunately, we were still able to play some sport this week, with several netball matches taking place indoors.

The U13 and U12B netball teams travelled to Marlborough House, Vinehall, to play in their sports hall. Short matches were played, but it was great for all three teams to get valuable game time.

The U13 A team played a very competitive match and were challenged to think carefully about their positional play down the court. Some unforced errors led to lost possession, but determination and hard work paid off, resulting in a well-earned 7–7 draw.

The U13 B team played two matches against the MHV 1st and 2nd teams. Although they were unable to secure a win, there was some excellent play down the court and strong defensive work. The shooters found it difficult to create space in the circle against robust defenders, but they worked hard to score goals.

The U12B team played against the MHV 2nd team and demonstrated some lovely play and athleticism. The attacking players were dynamic and moved well in the goal third to create space; however, possession was lost too often, and it proved difficult to convert their hard work into goals.

Well done to all of the girls for their efforts, and fingers crossed for improved weather for training and matches in the coming week. SP

Under 11 Netball Tournament at Sevenoaks School

The Girls Under 11A team put in a strong performance at the tournament, winning two matches, drawing one and losing one. The girls narrowly missed out on qualification for the semi-finals, which was disappointing but reflected how competitive the standard was throughout the day.

Across all games, the team showed great determination and resilience. They fought hard for every ball and worked well together, demonstrating excellent teamwork and commitment.

One area for development was passing in the centre third, where a few turnovers allowed the opposition to regain possession at key moments. But overall, it was a positive tournament experience and the girls should be proud of their performance, teamwork and fighting spirit!

Scores:

HH v Sevenoaks Prep: 4-1 Win

HH v Croydon High: 0-7 Lost

HH v Bromley High: 3-3 Draw

HH v Derwent Lodge: 3-2 Win

Under 9 Netball

Thursday’s weather was a little more promising, and although light rain was forecast for the afternoon, we decided to try to play after the previous two weeks had been cancelled. It was well worth it. While the girls did get wet, most stayed active around the court and kept warm.

The matches were thoroughly enjoyable, with all teams winning their games and the overall standard of play very high. Passing down the court was excellent, and the shooting showed real improvement. Well done to all the girls who braved the conditions—we look forward to drier weather for the house matches next week. SP
