Girls’ Sport 16.1.26

It was great that we could have all our fixtures on Wednesday with matches against Sevenoaks School, Radnor House and Dulwich. Unfortunately matches on Thursday had to once again be cancelled because of very wet weather… let’s hope we get some sunshine soon.

U13A Team Netball

The team travelled to Sevenoaks to play inside the impressive Sennocke Centre — a real treat with its sprung floor and warm, comfortable conditions.

It took a little time for the team to settle into the rhythm of the match, and Sevenoaks were first to score. However, strong defensive work from Esperanza and Isla, who took on defensive roles this week, helped turn the tide with some excellent interceptions. By the end of the first quarter, the team trailed only narrowly at 3–2.

Focusing on positional play and timing through the court, the players found their flow as the game progressed. Their teamwork and persistence paid off in a dominant third quarter, pulling ahead to 13–6.

In the final quarter, Sevenoaks rallied and applied pressure, but couldn’t close the gap. The team held firm and secured a well-earned 15–10 victory.

A fantastic performance — well done, girls! Fingers crossed for good weather and another opportunity to shine at the St Michael’s tournament next week. SP

U12A Team Netball

The U12s faced a strong and well-drilled Sevenoaks side who arrived with plenty of fresh legs. Their sharp passing and height in the shooting circle made the challenge even tougher for our girls. Without Lavinia in attack, Holmewood found it difficult to work the ball close enough to the post to convert their chances.

Despite this, the third quarter was a real highlight. The girls dug deep, contested every ball, and were rewarded with some well-earned goals. Their resilience and determination never wavered, which was fantastic to see in such a demanding match.

A huge well done to the whole team for their effort and spirit, and congratulations to Rebecca M, deservedly voted Player of the Match. SP

U12B Netball

Whilst the scoreline was not flattering it didn’t really tell the tale of the match itself. The ball did travel up and down the court but the Sevenoaks girls were much taller which made it very hard for the Holmewood girls to score. The girls tried really hard as the game progressed to spread out and clear if they were not being passed to so that made space for another of their team. Maya P worked tirelessly in defence and Nilaya slotted in at C for the second half which she did a great job of. Well done to Maya and Ffion for being voted girls of the game. TB

U13B Netball

It was a very chilly afternoon for the girls at Sevenoaks on Wednesday. The U13b team started of strong drawing the first quarter, but then lost momentum before half time leaving it 3-8 to Sevenoaks at halftime. The girls tried hard to work on their use of space and movement which lead to them drawing the last quarter. The final score was 8 – 15 with Sevenoaks taking the win. MI

U11A Team

The U11A netball team delivered an excellent performance to secure a well-deserved win against Dulwich Prep. Their teamwork was outstanding, with sharp passing, confident movement, and strong defensive pressure throughout the match. The girls remained composed in possession and showed impressive accuracy in the shooting circle.

Every player made a meaningful contribution, demonstrating determination, sportsmanship, and clear progress as a developing team. Holmewood House came away with a 5–3 victory, and congratulations go to Fiyi, who was voted Player of the Game.

A fantastic effort from all the girls. EB

U11B Netball

A great match against Radnor House and a great winning score of 10-5!

Some good passing down the court and into the circle, allowing the shooters to score some great goals. Defence work was solid and the team all worked hard over the 40 minute match. Well done to Emilia for being awarded Girl of the Game.

Well done everyone KL

U11C Netball

The U11C secured a well-deserved 9–0 victory against a spirited Dulwich-Cranbook side and impressively scored in every quarter, this is particularly impressive when you factor in the rotation of players throughout the match. Despite what the scoreline suggests, this was a closely contested match throughout, with both teams displaying determination and skill.

Holmewood played with confidence and the transition from defence to attack was impressive, linking passes neatly through the court and showing great awareness of space. What really made the difference, though, was the team’s aggressive approach to the intercept. Time and again, the girls stepped up to challenge passes, winning turnover ball at key moments.

One of the standout elements of the match was the squad’s adaptability. Players rotated through several positions, demonstrating impressive depth and a willingness to support the team in any role.

Tavonga was deservedly named Player of the Match, showing great tenacity in defence. It was a real pleasure to be involved in my first netball match at Holmewood House, and the team should feel incredibly proud of their performance. CW

U11D Netball

U11D’s played against Radnor House Colts C team. Starting strong, the Holmewood team pulled ahead to an early lead. By half time we were up 5-0 which gave us the opportunity to swap positions and create stronger links with all members of the team. Sofia and Flo W working hard in the centre third to bring the ball down to Tamzin and Flo H (POM), put up some lovely mid-range shots to end the match 9-2. KB

U10A Netball

This week, the Under 10A’s played an excellent match against Dulwich Prep School. There was some strong shooting from Maddie and Winter, and the girls came back from 1-3, to lead 4-3 at the end of the first half. It was an end-to-end game against some very tall opponents, but the team continued to demonstrate strong passing and excellent communication skills and they emerged as 10-4 winners at the end of the game. Special congratulations to player of the match Winter for her excellent attacking and shooting. AP

U10B Netball

First quarter was end to end with no goals scored from either team. Coming back on for the second quarter, the HH team started to settle with some goals going in. Defence, Scarlett, Emma and Amelie working hard to limit Radnor’s opportunities to score and moving the ball down the centre third with some lovely spacing from Anni and Cara, we pulled away with both our shooters, Alana (POM) and Sophie getting the ball in the hoop. End score 6-1. KB

U10C Netball

What an exciting match for the U10Cs on Wednesday! The girls worked incredibly well as a team, really focusing on their spacing and making sure they marked their players effectively. There was some impressive defending from Tomiwa and Bonnie, who kept the opposition on their toes throughout the game. Fantastic goals were scored by Lottie and Libby, with two goals each. Great fast-paced movement and slick passing were shown by Sofia, Zara and Nova, helping to keep the momentum high. The final score was 6–4 to Dulwich, but it was a thrilling and closely contested match from start to finish. Well done to Sofia for being awarded Girl of the Game!
