Bebras Challenge

Organised by the Raspberry Pi Foundation, the Bebras Challenge encourages pupils to develop their computational thinking through a number of coding challenges in a given time. By breaking down problems using decomposition and abstraction, pupils deepen their understanding and learn to devise innovative solutions. These essential skills are not only vital for the Bebras Challenge but also support many areas of the computing curriculum, including coding.⁠

Holmewood House is celebrating an outstanding set of results in this year’s competition. The school achieved 10 Gold certificates in the Junior category, placing ten Year 6 pupils in the top 10% nationally out of more than 156,000 participants.⁠

This week in English, the children have been learning about the features of persuasive writing. They used the acronym AFOREST to help them remember them all. The children selected a favourite present from the Christmas holidays and created their own advert using the AFOREST features, as well as clever colour and design, to promote their product. Every Friday 10.00am – 11.30am⁠

Bring your under-4 to have fun in our Forest School every Friday morning during term time. As well as organised activities such as bread or candle making or painting pine cones, there are bridges to cross, swings and hammocks to enjoy and endless opportunities to dig, create or just explore! ⁠
⁠
If the weather isn’t great, you can retreat into the warmth of our giant Teepee with lovely log fire. These sessions are a great opportunity to meet other parents and children, all whilst being in a safe outdoors environment. Mr Lee, our skilled Forest School Lead, looks forward to welcoming you. ⁠
