Due to frozen pitches and very wet conditions, this week’s fixtures were unfortunately unable to go ahead. Pupil welfare was our priority, and we were keen to avoid contact rugby on frozen ground, as well as boys spending extended periods in wet kit following competitive games. Instead, sessions were relocated to the astro and to areas of grass that were softer and safer to use. Activities were carefully adapted throughout the afternoon to suit the conditions and ensure pupils remained active, warm and engaged. The boys took part in a range of skill-based activities, focusing on core techniques such as passing, movement and ball control, alongside small-sided tournament-style games to maintain a competitive and enjoyable element to the session.
Looking ahead, we are excited to welcome Saint Ronan’s next week for a full block of rugby fixtures across all age groups. The Year 6 boys are also eagerly anticipating the prestigious Pelican Cup, a competition we proudly won three years ago. In addition, there are several upcoming rugby and hockey competitions towards the end of January — including the Tonbridge Rugby Tournament, UKSA Hockey and IAPS Hockey tournaments — which the boys are very much looking forward to.
The Year 7 and 8 boys are also looking ahead with excitement to their upcoming hockey and football tour to Valencia over the February half-term, which promises to be a fantastic sporting and cultural experience.
To further support preparation for the upcoming hockey season, we will also be launching an invite-only lunchtime hockey club for Year 6–8 boys, starting next Friday. This group will focus on developing key skills and game understanding ahead of the competitive fixtures starting in February.
There is also still space available in the Tuesday after-school hockey club, and pupils are encouraged to take advantage of this pre-season training opportunity while places remain.
