Girls’ Sport 5.12.25

This week saw the last matches of the term with the senior girls playing away at Cumnor House and the Year 5 and 6 girls playing against St Michael’s.

U13A Netball

With three of our 1st Team girls absent for the match against Cumnor, Lavinia, Shekina and Millie rose to the challenge of stepping into the U13A squad. They slotted in seamlessly and quickly adapted to the flow of the game.

The first quarter was a little messy, with players occasionally crowding each other’s space, but the girls kept their composure and converted their chances. In the circle, Trixie and Lavinia worked confidently together, showing strong movement and communication. Holmewood ended the quarter 3–1 ahead.

In the second quarter, the team focused on playing the ball sequentially down the court. This approach created more space and led to two well-taken goals, giving Holmewood a 5–1 lead at half-time. Esperanza and Bella were particularly strong in defence, consistently disrupting Cumnor’s attack.

The third quarter saw the girls driving onto the ball with greater determination, resulting in five more goals while conceding just one. With a healthy lead, we rotated positions for the final quarter: Tillie stepped into defence, and Bella moved into the circle alongside Lavinia. Trixie worked tirelessly at centre, supported by Shekina and Millie on the wings, helping to open up the play.

Both teams added to the scoreboard in the final minutes, and the match concluded with an impressive 16–5 victory for Holmewood — a fantastic way to end the term.

Well done, girls, and have a restful Christmas ahead of a busy January term! SP

U13B Netball

Holmewood House U13B team travelled to Cumnor House for a triangular tournament against the hosts and Brighton College. In the first match against Cumnor House, Holmewood were fantastic with some pin point shooting on display. The girls triumphed 6-1 with Sophia being awarded girl of the game.

The second match against Brighton was a lot more challenging and we were up against a very tough defence. Despite the first half being very close, unfortunately Brighton ran away with it in the second half resulting in a 5-1 loss against good opposition. The girls of the game were Delilah in defence and Sophia in attack. AF

U12A Netball

We travelled to Cumnor House and were met by a taller opposition, but undeterred we made an impressive start. Strong movement forward and asking for the ball in front of our opponent. Excellent transition from the goal line, good passing and handling and fine finishing. 5 1 up at half time. Disappointingly, the netball became very untidy and our match play dropped to their level and we seemed to lose the focus. 6 all at the finish which was a shame after such a promising start. A completely different approach and higher level of netball against Brighton College. Again a taller opposition so it was imperative we jumped higher, pass with power and place the ball away from their long arms into space. Longer balls through the court worked well and quick movement in the circle meant success from Pippa and Ffion under the post. The score stayed 4 3 for a long period until Brighton just pushed away taking the win 6 3. Lots of positives to take from today’s matches. Well done to Rebecca, Antonia, Ottilie, Bo, Clemmie, Pippa and Ffion. SE

U12B Netball

The U12Bs played both Cumnor House and Brighton in a triangular yesterday. In their first match, they beat Cumnor House 11–1, showing great teamwork and all-round skills. Amaia and Nilaya did an amazing job in goals, while Zoe, Anna, and Bella worked brilliantly on the wings, and Elenor and Maya were strong in defence.

In the girls’ second match, they faced tougher competition against Brighton. They put up an incredible fight but lost 4–2, despite their hard efforts.

Throughout both matches, the girls were determined, driven, and worked incredibly hard, as reflected in the results. Player of the Match went to Nilaya, which was well deserved! ET

U11A Netball

In a valiant effort against St Michaels, the U11A team lost 13-17. They showed great determination in the defensive half, Temi Mene towering over the attackers and snatching every ball she could. On the offence, Beatrice Hammond showcased her simple and effective goal shooting that won her girl of the game. An overall impressive performance. EV

U11B Netball

The Under 11B girls showed great teamwork and resilience in a tight match against St Michael’s, narrowly losing 3–4. They fought hard throughout, demonstrated some strong passing and positioning, and never gave up. A proud performance—well done, girls! Girl of the Game was Marsaili KL

U11C/U11D

With a few absents we merged the teams against St Michaels. We played mixed teams with the U11C/D. We saw some goals from Tamzin and Florence H. Great quick passing from Fleur and Sofia. Anna brought some quick energy playing Centre. Annabelle, Florence W and Hannah defended and marked their players well. St Michaels got 9 goals overall and Holmewood house got 10. Player of the match was Sofia. Well done, Girls. EB

U10A Netball

A’s played against St Michael’s showing much improvement from last week.

Clearing and driving down the court, with loads of interceptions from our defence – Rosie, Ottilie, Maddie and Tolu (POM). Our focus of being ball side and making a front ball pass was a lot stronger than the opposition through the centre third from Cecilia and Romy. We struggled to get the ball to our shooters in a strong position to shoot but a goal scored by Margot. Huge progress made. Well done all.

U10B Netball

The Bs played an excellent, fast-paced game against St Michael’s that was competitive from start to finish. They raced to a 3-1 lead, before being overtaken in the second quarter, which ended 3-4. The third quarter saw no additional goals but a flurry of goals from Alana in the final quarter meant that they finished 6-5 winners. Well done to all the girls for giving their best effort throughout the match and a special well done to girl-of-the-game Emilia Rose. AP

U10C Netball

The U10Cs played an exciting match on Wednesday afternoon, showing fantastic teamwork from start to finish. The girls worked hard to find space, communicate effectively, and call for the ball when free, creating several strong attacking opportunities. Their defensive effort was equally impressive, with some very effective marking. The team’s hard work was rewarded with two excellent goals—one from GS Sophie and another from GA Lottie—both brilliantly taken and celebrated with enthusiasm. A great performance all round! Well done girls! LM
