U13A vs Hilden Grange School
Holmewood House hosted Hilden Grange. It was a tough day as the visitors consisted of some big ball carriers who tested our defensive skills to the maximum. Unfortunately the opposition proved to be too big and too strong as they broke through tackles to breach our line with some consistency. The second half did show some significant improvement as the team stepped up and demonstrated heart to stop the opposition. This renewed confidence was also demonstrated in attack as the team ran with more purpose and showed some continuity scoring 2 tries in the second half. Ultimately, the power and speed of the opposition proved to be the difference and the ground that they lost in the first half proved to be a mountain too high. Player of the day for Holmewood was Digby who once again showed commitment and determination in both attack and defence.

U11A vs Hilden Grange School
Our final match of the term saw the boys travel to Hilden Grange, where both the weather and pitch conditions suited our expansive style of play. Knowing the importance of a strong start, the team began with good intent, although a few early penalties suggested we were perhaps a little over-eager to impress.
As the game settled, the boys rucked well and secured quality possession, which allowed them to play with confidence and run in some very well-constructed tries. Handling was occasionally a little ragged, but effort levels never dropped. Defensively, the tackling improved significantly as the match went on, with the boys showing real commitment and resilience.
A convincing 40–15 victory was a great way to finish the term. Well done, boys — you have been an absolute pleasure to coach. Enjoy the holidays… but try not to eat too much Christmas pudding!
U11B vs Hilden Grange School
The Colts B team travelled over to Hilden Grange for their final match of the first half of the season, on a generally bright but very wet afternoon underfoot. After a short warm up, a 10 a side match got underway, with Holmewood starting in fine fashion. Tackling, safe handling, quick off loads and support play were going to be key from the outset. The game plan worked tremendously with each team member putting in a really good shift and working hard for each other. Tries were scored at regular intervals and the team was 5-0 [25-0] up at half time. A rolling sub was played meaning there was plenty of rotation – further tries were scored in the second half, with only one against. So a wonderful 50- 5 victory resulted and the boys could celebrate a job very well done in the first half of the season. Played 3 won 2 drew 1. Let’s keep up this impressive playing record after Christmas. Keep up the fitness boys, over the holidays, so you are ready for the second half of the season. Great to see you all so enjoying your rugby, playing to the spirit of the game and representing Holmewood House so well, either at home or away. PM-J
U10A vs Hilden Grange School
The U10A team travelled to Hilden Grange for a thrilling and fiercely competitive match. With it being Hilden’s first fixture of the season, they were well-organised and full of energy, but Holmewood’s experience in tight, pressured situations proved invaluable — particularly during a tense spell defending on our own try line.
In attack, the boys carried the ball confidently, taking on tackles with determination. There were moments where isolated runners or slight losses of control in contact led to turnovers when trying to offload, but overall the intent and positivity were excellent. Out wide, Holmewood looked dangerous and moved the ball well, though a few promising breaks were halted by being forced into touch.
The match remained competitive throughout, with key contributions helping swing momentum our way: George broke through superbly in open play, and Theo once again demonstrated his power with a strong crash-ball finish from a penalty 10 metres out to go 10-0 (2 tries) by the final whistle.
It was a committed team performance with many positives to celebrate. Going forward, the focus will be on passing before contact to avoid compromised offloads, and moving the ball away from congested areas more quickly — developments that will take this promising group to the next level.
