Miss Brooks’ English set have been learning about show not tell. They were given the picture below and they had to describe how the player felt before the penalty and after. Can you guess whether the player scored or missed based on their descriptions?
The crowd roared with anticipation. The player’s hands were so sweaty and cold. He took a deep breath to calm himself and then he struck the ball praying for it to go in but tears started coming from his eyes and the crowd went silent. The player was blushing and looking at the ground. Jack Randall
As the crowd roared with anticipation, he was as nervous as a person about to go down the steepest water slide ever created. His body was shaking. The player took the shot, he fell on his knees on the edge of tears but he held them in. The other players walked away but the goalkeeper was hyped up. The shot kept coming back to him and he cried in terror. Max Dodd-Noble
As the crowd ruled with anticipation, the player adjusted his socks. The crowd went silent and he took a slow deep breath. He raced with courage towards the ball and he hit the ball with incredible speed and precision. The crowd went wild as he ran past the fans, the crowd was chanting his name. His teammates ran with him and his teammate lifted him up. The other team dropped in tears they had lost. Cecelia Wright
